Rarelt this season, Bude started slowly and because
of it saw themselves go one goal behind after 10 minutes, a long ball
over the defence saw hands go up appealing for offside. The flag never
came and the Bickington striker ran on to score. Once Bude woke
up, they replied after 20 mins with a strike from the Stevie Thompson
on the edge of the box. Bude took a fortunate lead after 30 mins,
the ball was with Ian Marks out on the right and a cross come shot
was chipped over the keeper and fell in to the net. Bude made a
perfect start to the second half and were soon scored their third, a
low shot from Thompson was well saved from the visiting keeper but
John Clayton reacted and tapped in the rebound. On the hour the game
was put to bed, an Ian Marks corner picked out Gary Hodgson who leapt
to head in to the top right hand corner. Budes football went
downhill from here on as they eased off the gas and started trying
impossible passes. The sound defending of James Bromell, Chris Hudson,
Josh Allen and Liam Anderson was broken up with the introduction of
substitutes and some early confusion allowed the visiting attack to
penetrate and they reduced the arrears scoring from close range, Bude
though held on and progress through to the next round of the cup.
