League Match
Against top of the table Torrington, Bude knew this
would be a tough tie and it started off that way with Torrington
smashing a shot off the post in the first few minutes. They then
scored after 10 minutes, a cross from the right saw Darren Reek catch
a diving header which finished low in the far bottom corner. The rest
of the half was even with Bude creating the better chances in the
final third of the pitch but unable to make anything count. Torrington
doubled their lead early in the second half with a Mark Hewitt
finish from the right. They were then reduced to 10 men when a player
kicked out and abusive language saw him sent off the field. Bude
used this to their advantage and pulled one back after 75 minutes, a
Jason Stewart corner found Gary Hodgson at the back post who headed in
from close range. They then equalised when Steve Thompson, through
all his own work, found an opening after a beating a couple of players
on the left and drilled the ball in past the near post. Bude were on
top looking for the winner and chances were going begging, but again
that bit of luck eluded them. Torrington grabbed a late winner when
against the run of play, defender Alex Crossman stumbled on the ball
inside his own box, allowing Reek to snatch it off him and hit an
early shot down the middle of the goal for his second and
Torrington's winner.
