League Match
Merton 2 Bude
5
Playing down the hill in the
first half Bude opened up the scoring after 10 minutes when Steve
Thompson cut in from the left and on the edge of the box hit a left foot
strike in to the bottom left hand corner. Budes early domination was
undone after 20 mins when some defensive hesitation allowed Ben Mason to
react quickest, run in on goal and slot low past keeper Bob Freestone.
Both teams worked hard to take control, but it was Budes attacking
options which was the difference as strikers Thompson and John Clayton
regularly combined to open up the Merton defence and saw Thompson grab a
second and Clayton struck to make it 3-1 at half time. It was a similar
story in the second half with Budes strikers causing all the trouble,
Clayton flicked a ball through to Thompson who went on and grabbed his
third and Budes fourth. Bude started becoming complacent defending the
game and Nathan Delaune pounced on a through ball to reduce the arrears.
Bude wrapped the game up in the final minutes, this time Thompson
clipped through to Clayton who beat the defensive line and tucked the
ball in to the far corner with ease.
