Reserve Team Match Report

Match report for reserve team fixture

League Match

Bude  6    V     South Molton 1

With Bude languishing just a point from the bottom of the table this was a must 3 points and it start well for Bude going a goal behind inside the first 10 minutes. South Moltons striker got through the Bude defence too easily and put a neat low strike past keeper Gary Dinshaw. After half an hour Bude striker John Clayton was played in on goal, took the keeper and his shot was cleared off the line by a South Molton defender back in to the hands of the keeper and the referee adjudged it to be a pass back (or forward) to the keeper. The free kick instead of being blasted towards goal was squared along the six yard box and Clayton reacted to tuck it away and level the score.  Bude continued to create chances up to half time but lack of composure in front of goal kept the game level. Bude started to take more control in the second half and were much more threatening and within minutes of the restart Bude had taken the lead with Ian Marks scoring from close range.  Clayton made it three when he saw the keeper off his line and from 30 yards lobbed it over him in to an empty net.  Some hefty challenges started going in from both sides and it boiled over when player manager Marks was brought down and he got up a clash oh heads gave the referee no option but to dismiss him from the field.  It seemed as though South Molton had gone down to 10 men as Bude continued to dominate, Clayton grabbing his hat-trick when again he saw the keeper way off his line and he said thank you very much as another shot looped over his head in to the goal and he couldn't seem to do anything wrong as a fourth came soon after, a long range curling effort found the top right corner.  Bude made it six late in the game when a wonderful through ball from midfielder Tommy Statton found the run of Jordan White who placed his low shot in to the bottom right corner.  South Moltons frustrations were show when 5 minutes remaining a player just booted the ball out in to touch and just stomped off the pitch to the changing rooms leaving his 10 team mates to finish the game.  Important points for Bude but they still have to pick up points from their remaining 4 games to survive relegation.
