League Match
Braunton 1
Bude 10
Bude destroyed a Braunton side
playing their 1st game of the season, almost scoring in 5 seconds when
John Clayton shot straight from the half way line, the home keeper was
off his line and had to scramble backwards to tip the ball over the
crossbar. From the corner though the ball fell to Gary Hodgson who
scored from close range. Good work from Clayton on the right saw
him lay the ball across the edge of the box to Hodgson who curled a left
foot shot in to the top left hand corner to double their lead after 20
minutes. Although Braunton were slowly getting themselves back in
to the game Budes lead increased to three on the half hour. An Ian Marks
free kick from inside Budes own half picked out Hodgson on the edge of
the box who rose to loop a header in to the far right corner for his hat
trick. Just before half time a long ball up to striker Stevie
Thompson was headed in to the path of Jordan White who placed a low shot
in to the bottom right corner. Bude continued to dominate the
second half and were soon five up when Josh Allen cut in from the left
and a perfect shot flew from the edge of the box in to the right hand
corner giving the keeper no chance. Allens' second soon came another
early shot from inside the box, hit the keeper and trickled in to the
goal. Braunton kept battling and had some promising chances, a
well taken free kick was well tipped over the bar from keeper Phil
Constable and another shot struck the upright, but it was Bude who
continued to find the net, striker Clayton happy that he was finally
joining in with the goals, sub James Bromell playing Clayton in who made
no mistake from close range. Hodgson grabbed his fourth, again
Bromell setting the move up with a cheeky back heel in to the path of
Hodgson who smashed in past the near post. Some individual moves
from Thompson saw him grab his only goal of the game and Budes ninth.
Adam Pugsley grabbed a consolation goal for Braunton knocking in a goal
mouth scramble. After a push on Clayton in the box Bude were
awarded a penalty in the final minutes. Allen was pleading to take
it and was finally given his wish and scored for his third and Budes
tenth.
