Barnstaple AAC
2 Bude Reserves 3
Against Division 1 rivals, Bude
travelled to Barnstaple and played well considering the terrible
conditions which were more suited to a duck race than a football match.
Bude started well and were soon one nil up when John Clayton scored from
close range, Barnstaple came back and with defenders and
goalkeeper not taking any real control a Barnstaple striker nipped in to
header into an empty net. Bude again took the lead midway through
the half, some individual work from Clayton saw him nick the ball past
the keeper and stroke low in to the net. The rain continued in to
the second half with the referee saying he would give it 10 minutes
before making a decision to cut the game short, but the decision never
came. Bude increased their lead when substitute Josh Kerslake was played
in down the left by defender Ian Marks, he cut inside past his defender
and struck a sweet shot low in to the far corner. Almost
immediately though Barnstaple replied, an easy ball through the middle
wasn't dealt with and a Barnstaple player ran through and clipped the
ball over the advancing keeper. Both teams looked for that next
important goal, but the whistle finally went and manager Ian Marks was
glad to get his first win going in to his 1st league game in 2 weeks
time.
