16/5/09.   End of season dinner, dance and presentation evening.
Bude FC presentation winnersBude town football club celebrated one of the most successful seasons in recent times with their end of season dinner, dance and presentation evening at Bude Golf Club. After a superb 3 course meal we got to the presentations, starting with the trophies decided by the committee members, 'Supporter Of The Year', second year running went to Gordon Brown, 'Most Promising Player Under 21', was close and went to Billy Hopcroft, and 'Club Person' was Julie Hodgson. Next up was the team managers and they had a lot to celebrate with the 1st team getting promoted from the East Cornwall Div 1 league on the last day of the season, the reserve team were also promoted to the North Devon Senior league  and were two points from winning the league. The ladies who had gone up a league last season had a superb season finishing a creditable 5th.  Ladies manager Aaron Westlake stepped up first and presented the 'Ladies Players Player'  to Leona Marsh who also then won 'Managers Player' . Most improved player went to Reanne Westlake. Reserve team manager Ian 'Oz' Marks said a few words before announcing the 'Reserve Team Players Player' as striker 'Stevie Thompson with the 'Managers Player' going to fellow striker partner John Clayton.  The first team manager Adrian Warburton congratulated all the senior teams on their success and then presented Billy Hopcroft with the 'First Team Players Player' and 'Managers Player' went to first team captain Wayne Cornish.  Goalkeeper Gary Dinshaw also came up to collect his 'Supporters Player' award.  Richard Pinkus got up to present his 'Club Player' which this year went to Gary Hodgson.  Thanks went out to Jenny Prideaux for running the canteen, Ann Hill for her work behind the bar, Esme Cornish for her kit washing skills and Julie Hodgson for organising the night.  The club would also like to thank the Golf Club for hosting the evening and Dan Smith for his superb disco. Hopefully next season will be just as successful.
16/5/09.   1st team go and do a club double with promotion.
Bude Town FC gain promotion to East Cornwall Premier LeagueAnything the second team can do, the first team can match as they went and won promotion to the East Cornwall Premier division on the last day of the season.  The second team won promotion last week and nearly clinched the title with a draw against league champions Landkey.  On Saturday nothing less than 3 points would do for the first team as they entertained Polperro.  Polperro hadn't read the script for the day as they took the lead inside the first few minutes, Bude though were 2-1 up by half time, the second half was one way traffic as Bude turned on the style and the celebration drinks were already flowing when Tommy Statton netted Budes seventh in the last few minutes to beat Elburton Villa and St.Stephens to that runners up spot.

Well done to both teams in gaining promotion and the celebrations continue this Saturday with the end of season dinner 'n' dance and presentations, it's not gonna be a messy one is it ??!!??

15/5/09.   1st team looking for the 3 points to gain promotion
The 1st team have put themselves just 1 game from promotion after beating Roche 4-1 in last nights penultimate league game.  A hard fought game saw Budes Gary Hodgson grab one with Billy Hopcroft grabbing a hat-trick.
Tomorrows last game of the season is home against Polperro with a 2.30 pm.  We hope to get everyone up there supporting the teams promotion charge. Only 3 points will do and expectation is now there after seeing the 2nd team gain promotion last week.  Come on the boys !!!!
9/5/09.   May 200 Club winner is club chairman
The May '200 Club' draw was for £300 of Travis Perkins vouchers and the winner was our very own chairman Mr Graham Hodgson with his lucky number 13.  Helen Griffins' number was drawn out for the £130 accumulator prize but she wasn't at the draw so it rolls over to Junes cash draw.
9/5/09.   Reserve teams' draw sees them consolidate runners up spot.
Bude Town FC runners up in the North Devon Div 1 08-09 !!Only a win could see the reserves as champions of the league but were up against the league leaders Landkey. A two all draw was enough for Landkey to win the league but confirmed Bude as runners up and promotion to the North Devon senior league next season.

Congratulations to both teams for getting promoted from this division.  Have added some pics on the site here.

6/5/09.   Reserve team looking to win the league in final game of season.
The reserve team have all but guaranteed promotion to the North Devon senior league after beating Northam 5-0 in last nights penultimate league game to put themselves up in to joint second place with North Molton who have now played all their games, but Bude have better goal difference.  They now face league leaders Landkey who are 3 points ahead of Bude and the goal difference is level this Saturday. A win or draw for Landkey will see them crowned champions, but if Bude win they will have made an astonishing run to snatch the league trophy.  On 31st January Bude lost to Torrington Admirals at home 4-2 and it looked like promotion was just too far away. Since then though they have gone on an unbeaten run winning 12 and drawing 1 of their 13 league games to now put them in this position.  If Landkey put 12 goals past Bude, then Bude would come third, but this is very unlikely with Landkey recently struggling in games, but both teams will be desperate to come top and a great match is on the cards.  Good luck on Saturday boys and supporters come and cheer on the boys.

The 1st team are away to Elburton Villa with both teams still in contention for the second spot in the East Cornwall league.  Again good luck on Saturday to you.

Latest News In April 2009
18/4/09.   1st team go out in semis again.
The 1st teams 'nail biting' second leg encounter against Plymouth Parkway completely came undone by half time after possibly their worst 45 minutes of the season. Although Bude had players out and a few partially fit players having to play, they couldn't cope with a fully charged Parkway team which took a 4 nil half time lead. Bude showed some brief moments of their normal form early in the second half with Tommy Statton finishing off a good Bude move, but when Parkway scored their fifth after 70 minutes they knew there was no coming back and they were out of their second semi final cup in the space of 10 days.
The plus side is they can now concentrate on promotion with just 6 league games to go, but will need to be looking to win them all to guarantee promotion.
15/4/09.   Gary Dinshaw wins newly donated 'Supporters 'Player Of The Year' trophy.
Supporters Player Of The Year - Gary Dinshaw1st team goalkeeper Gary Dinshaw is the first name to go on the newly donated George 'Tubby' Gilbert Memorial Trophy.
Tubby Gilbert who passed away in the summer of 2008 was an avid supporter of the football club and ex-player and rarely missed a match, his motto being 'If I can get there,  I'll be there!'.

Andrew 'Wizzer' Wise kindly donated the trophy to the club in memory of Tubby and thought it would be fitting if the supporters could have their vote for Player of the Year.  It was a very close call with just 1-2 votes splitting four players but Gary got that extra vote and was presented with the trophy during the home game against Lifton last week.

14/4/09.   April '200 Club' draw made.
The April '200 Club' draw on Saturday was for £300 of Woolacotts vouchers and has gone to Mr Rex Braund.  The accumulator was £120 but the winning number drawn wasn't at the draw so rolls over again to next months May draw.
12/4/09.   1st team go out in one semi final but still in another.
The 1st team went out to Holsworthys first team in the Thursday night semi final Torridge Cup fixture losing one nil against their higher league opponents, Levi Landracombe scoring Holsworthys goal in the first half.

Two days later the 1st team drew one all in the 1st leg of the Supplementary Cup semi final against Plymouth Parkway with Gary Hodgson scoring Budes' only goal and Parkway tucking away a penalty with minutes left and should set up a nail biting 2nd leg return away next Saturday.
6/4/09.   2nd team win cup semi final but are then ejected from the cup.
The 2nd team won a hard fought game against Northam Lions in the semi final of the North Devon Cup after taking the game in to extra time and then winning on penalties only to see themselves thrown out after new signing James Watson was not signed on for this competition.  The game also saw some foul abuse being thrown at players and Bude supporters throughout and the club are looking in to taking the matter further.
Donks on crutches5/4/09.   Liam Sandercock out for the season with a broken leg .
After just coming back from a cracked collar bone, Liam Sandercock broke his leg in the home game against Elburton Villa. The leg, broke in two places will now see Liam out for the season and possibly much of next season. Liam who has also been a regular for Cornwall Under 18's will also miss their cup final in May.

It's understood all the nurses in the hospital were cueing up to give Donks a bed bath, not got a clue why.

We all wish Liam the best in his recovery and hope to see him back on the pitch as soon as possible, good luck Liam.

15/3/09.   1st team go through to Torridge Cup semis in cup shock.
The 1st team have made it through to the semi final of the highly regarded Torridge cup after an enthralling 5-3 victory against Appledore.  Appledore who are two divisions above Bude took the lead early in the first half but Bude played well to take the game in to extra time after Billy Hopcroft equalised in the second half from the penalty spot.  Bude went 3-1 up in the first 15 minutes with goals from Hopcroft and Stevie Thompson, but Appledore dug in to bring it back level. With minutes remaining Hopcroft grabbed another two to win the game just before penalties were looking likely.
14/3/09.   Great night at the clubhouse for horse race night & 200 Club draw.
Liam Anderson Big Winner at the Bude Town Football Club Race Night !!!..... and poser !A horse race night was held at the clubhouse on Saturday for this months 200 Club draw and a busy night saw over £300 raised for the club plus bar takings. Eight races were shown and lots of betting was made on the races.  Ollie Smith, Dan Balsdon and Jenni Prideau were among the lucky horse owners but it was Liam Anderson who came away the biggest winner of the evening paying just £5 to be the owner of 'Manes A Double' in the final race which saw him win over £46 along with another £4 for betting on that horse. Congratulations to all the winners.  The March 200 Club draw was also made which saw £300 of Wroes vouchers went to a Mr & Mrs Kinsman. Roger Hunter was drawn out for the accumulator draw but he wasn't at the evening so missed out on the £110 prize which now rolls over to next months draw.

A big thank you to everyone who came to the evening and made the night an entertaining and enjoyable night and hopefully we can put some different events on 200 Club nights in the near future. If you have any ideas please let the club know.

10/3/09.   2nd team go out in semis as 1st team beat league leaders.
The 2nd team were knocked out of the league cup semi final against Woolsery on Saturday going down three goals to one, John Clayton being the sole scorer for Bude who's players admitted they didn't play as well as they have been and it cost them a chance in the final.

The 1st team had an encouraging victory as they beat league leaders Plymouth Parkway two nil with goals from Wes Pugh and Dan Middleton which keeps them in contention with the promotion chasing teams.  Unfortunately defender Liam Sandercock was taken to hospital after 20 minutes with a broken collar bone and looks likely to miss most of the remaining games of the season. We wish Liam all the best in his recovery. Get well soon bud. !!

The 1st team also meet Plymouth Parkway in the semi final of the Supplementary Cup. The two legged tie will take place on 11th (home) and 18th of April (away).

Cancer Research Charity Football Match. Bude ladies football and Bude hockey ladies.22/2/09.   Ladies team help raise over £1000 for Cancer Research.
The ladies team joined Bude hockey team to compete for the new Gosling Cup in memory of the late Sandra Gosling who played for both clubs.  In fancy dress the hockey team were in combat gear and the footie players were hippies. Forty minutes of hockey was first on the astro which the hockey players won 7-0. It then turned to football which the ladies footie team won 7-1, so on aggregate the hockey team won by the odd goal and were presented with the trophy at the after party at Inn On The Green.  The main reason for the day though was to raise money for Cancer Research UK and through a lot of generosity the clubs managed to raise over £1,000 for the charity, well done girls. !!

Some pics from the game are now on the Photo Gallery.

16/2/09.   Horse Race Night being held at the club next month.
Bude Town football club race nightA fun horse race night is being held at the football club on 14th March.  There will be 8 televised horse races shown through the evening and you will be able to bet on each race.  You can currently buy a horse for just £2, you get to name your own horse and if it wins you will be guaranteed £8 back. The first half will be hockey and for the second half they will be playing football and to make it harder and more enjoyable the match is being played in full fancy dress.  The game is being played at Budes Astro pitch with a kick off time of 2.30pm.

Refreshments and presentation of the 'Gosling Cup' will be made afterwards at Inn On The Green followed by a disco. Try and get there is you can, it's all for a great cause, if not, perhaps try and join up afterwards at 'Inn On'.

14/2/09.   Bude Reserves go through in league cup tie
The reserve team cruised through their 2nd round league cup tie against Park United.  Strikers Stevie Thompson and John Clayton both grabbed two each and player manager Ian Marks chipped in with the fifth and progress through to the next round.
10/2/09.   Bude 1st team through to Supplementary Cup semi final
Bude have gone through to the East Cornwall Supplementary cup semi final after a convincing win against higher league opposition Wadebridge winning 3-1 on Saturday. Bude went one up with Billy Hopcroft scoring for Bude, only for Wadebridge to pull one back just before half time.   Bude scored two in the second half through with the two Dans, Middleton and Balsdon, finding the back of the net.

Can they now go on and win the same cup they won in the 1994-95 season, this team are certainly capable of winning it but will be up against some tough opposition in the final four.

For some actions shots of the Wadebridge game go to the Photo Gallery.

The 1st team have been drawn away in the 2nd round of this seasons Cornwall Senior Cup against East Cornwall Premier league team Sticker.  This difficult draw will be played on Saturday 6th December with a 2pm kick off.  A tough draw but one I think the young 1st team will relish.
24/10/08.  Billy Hopcroft & Liam Sandercock make the Cornwall Under 18's Squad
Billy Hopcroft and Liam Sandercock - Bude Town Football ClubCongratulations to 1st team players Billy Hopcroft and Liam Sandercock who have been selected to represent Cornwall Under 18's this season.  Bill and Liam both got to through the various trials to make the squad and have already played one game in the FA County Youth cup, beating Berks & Bucks FA 5 goals to 4, with striker Billy having a 'man of the match' performance scoring two second-half goals and Liam having a sound game at centre back.  They will now meet Worcestershire in the second round at Saltash on 15th November.  Before that though Cornwall will be playing in the South West Counties Youth championship against Somerset and will be played at Penryns superb ground on Saturday 1st November with at 2.30pm kick off.  Congrats again boys.

Also well done to Lisa Cornish who is in the Cornwall squad to face Devon next Tuesday and the match is being played at Wadebridges' ground with a 7.30 kick off.

21/10/08.   Race night now in the new year.  Wayne Mardle comes to the Lucky Kiss.
wayne mardle come to Lukky Kiss BudeAfter previously saying the December 200 club draw will feature a race night, this has now been moved to probably March 09, reasons being the same weekend Friday 13th Tony Holgate and the Lucky Kiss will be hosting a ticket only darts exhibition evening from world professional Wayne ' Hawaii 501' Mardle.  The footie club will be having 20 tickets available at £10 each and Holgate has kindly agreed to give the proceeds from the 20 tickets sold back to the club.
Look on Tonys' site www.luckykiss.co.uk for more info.

The second and possibly more importantly reason is the Saturday see's Billy Hopcroft hosting his 18th birthday.....you'll soon be able to have a drink then Bill, I know you been dieing to have that first drink.

It's looking like the best date for the race night will be the March 200 club draw night, but watch this space for confirmation.

21/10/08.   Reserve team cup win & 2nd round Junior Cup draw made.
The reserve team are through to the second round of the Hansen cup after a superb 5-1 win over Equalizers on Sunday after drawing to them in the league the day before.  John Clayton had a superb day scoring four of the five goals.

13/10/08.   October '200 Club' winner and events for the next 2 draws.
The October 200 club winner was Mr Ian Lamble, our ex-treasurer and Ian picks up £300 worth of Woolacotts vouchers, well done Ian.  The accumulator rolls over to the November draw after not being picked up this month, so £70 up for grabs in November.

The November '200 Club' draw will be seeing a wine & wisdom quiz night, for all you budding Eggheads out there, which I believe some of the women's team are organising, so get thinking about your teams now.

The December '200 Club' Christmas draw was going to see a horse race night, but will now be in the new year, but still come up to the 200 club draw.

Two great evenings coming up over the next two draws so put them in your diary now, Saturday 8th November and Saturday 13th December.  Look out for more details soon.

6/10/08.   Reserve team go through in two cups over weekend.
The reserve team are through to the next round of two cups after this weekend. On Saturday they faced a tough tie against Duchy Division 1 team Mevagissey and won 4-2. The game was one all at full time and went in to extra time, the reserves upped their game and scored three times to Mevagisseys' one to avoid a reply and progress through in the Cornwall Junior Cup.  They could have done without the extra time as the following day they were at home again with a local derby against neighbours Stratton in the Launceston Cup but again they were too strong for their opposition cruising through with Stevie Thompson bagging two goals against his former team, Josh Allen scoring a superb long range effort and Phil Constable and John Clayton adding one apiece. Well done boys and good luck in the next rounds.

13/9/08.   September 200 Club draw goes to Colin Stevenson.
The September 200 club winner for the £300 of Woolacotts vouchers has gone to Mr & Mrs Colin Stevenson.  The accumulator was £50 and Jimmy Finn was drawn out but was not present so it rolls over to next month.
8/9/08.   Bad news for 1st team, reserve team, but good news for the ladies.
The 1st team were left gutted after hammering St.Newlyn East last week 11 goals to 1 and then see them pull out of the league last Friday which sees the teams' points and all 11 goals removed from the stats.  St.Newlyn lost their manager at the beginning of the season and many of their players went and signed for other clubs leaving St.Newlyn with a thread bear squad which couldn't cope with this league.
In other 1st team news, manager Adrian Warburton was omitted to hospital after having headaches and a cyst was found in his head, he was released on Saturday evening so hopefully it's not too serious, and the club wish him well in his recovery. His missed the 3 nil win over Nanpean, but is hoping to be back this week.

The reserve team will be looking for their 1st win this Wednesday at home to Hartland after losing their opening 3 games. With players back from holidays and suspensions the two teams should now be looking much stronger from this week.

Better news though and the womens team opened up their league campaign with a superb and possibly a shock home win over the strong opponents of Plymouth Argyle reserves winning one nil through a Katie Horstmann goal.

The Dobson family from WarminsterThe Bude FC 2008 duck race took place on Sunday evening with over 500 ducks sold and going in to the river at Nannymoors bridge and intending to make the long trip to the roundabout bridge.  Some very determined ducks worked their way to the front of the pack, but then half way through the course the tide decided to change (early than scheduled) and the finishing line was quickly changed and it was the first duck back to Nannymoors bridge.  A very close finish saw duck number 509 win which was owned by the new club treasurer Greg Cook.  The Dobson family, on holiday from Warminster (pictured, bought a ticket on the night and came second with number 597 winning £50 and third place was won by duck number 272 which long time Bude supporter Doreen Cornish owned and collected £25. Well done to everyone who made this annual event happen and thanks to everyone who bought a ticket with profits going towards much needed club funds, thanks again.

Jane Cann, Community Development Officer from Budehaven who completed the bid said, "There are a lot of girls who play football but don’t have any opportunities to play competitively with a club, we are really pleased that the bid has been successful and are now working hard to get everything in place."

A successful 'open evening' was held at the football club on 1st August with some keen girls ready to show what they could do and the scheme will hopefully continue to grow over the next 3 years.

11/7/08.   Ian 'Oz' Marks named reserve team manager
Adrian Warburton 1st team gaffer & Ian Oz Marks 2nd team gafferAt this weeks committee meeting the reserve team managers position was discussed and Ian Marks was named the manager. Oz has a wealth of football knowledge playing in the area for over 10 years and also being a previous Bude Town player. After having a spell playing at Bridgerule, he has decided he wants a new challenge and having earned his FA level 2 coaching badge wanted to put his skills to good use and we are all glad he has chosen Bude to develop his skills and hopefully help push the reserve team to the top of their league this season.
Pictured on the right is the new manager Oz along with the 1st team manager Warby who will be running the 1st team again this season and with a couple of training sessions already completed it looks like there is going to be a lot of competition for the two teams.

Also, the 1st team fixtures for the season including friendlies have now been added to the site. Look at the 1st team section for more info.

Olle Smith Vegetable Challenge Winner 086/7/08.   Ollie Smith gains 1st trophy of the season
With pre season training not due to start until this Wednesday it seems our very own Ollie Smith started his training early.  The annual fancy dress Bude Bike race took place on Saturday and half way round the event the prestigious 'Vegetable Eating' competition took place.  Ollie Smith took up the challenge against a gutsy female competitor.  They had to start by eating a whole raw onion, followed by some ginger, next was 2 cloves of garlic and then 2 chillies, all washed down with a cap full of chilli sauce.  Both competitors ate the lot apart from the chilli pips which only Smith could eat.  With the competition too close to call it was going in to the decider, they had a choice to eat either dog food or cat food.  Smiths quickly shouted bring him the dog food, whilst the female challenger wimped out and Smith was crowned Vegetable Eating Champion Of The Year 2008.

After drinking water for the next 8 hours, Bude FC managed to get an exclusive interview with the champions.

Q: 'How does it feel to win this event?'
Smith - 'For me this is the pinnacle of my career.  I've been training for this event all my life.  It just shows, if you put the work in kebab, chip and Indian takeaways you can achieve anything. I'm hoping this is an inspiration to all the players at the club, and that this trophy is just the first of amny for the club this season.'
Q: 'What are your plans for the future?'
Smith - 'Well, I've already had Pedigree Chum on the phone wanting me to sign a lucrative sponsorship deal, and Simon Cowell wants me to fly over to America to front a new television show called Vegetable X Factor, the phone just isn't stopping at the mo, but I also have to weigh this up with the commitments at the football club which I also take seriously.  My other aim will be to work harder so I can come back again next year and retain the title, I'm sure there will be younger and fatter opponents who think they have what it takes to snatch my title.

Ollie Smith has kindly agreed to waive his fee for this interview.  What a man!!!
6/7/08.   1st team to meet Roche on the opening day.
The 1st team will meet fierce rivals Roche away in the opening league game of the season on August 16th. The full fixtures will be out and added on here soon for all the teams.

In other East Cornwall news, Premier league side Tamarside have had to resign from the league.  After winning the league cup last season their manager had to step down due to work commitments with the assistant having the same problem, after an urgent meeting they still couldn't find a manager to take over a lot of the previous players have decided to move on so they had no alternative but to pull out of the league.

3. Chris Ward & any bloke   -  4/1

13/6/08.   June 200 Club winner goes to Wayne Cornish
The June 200 club winner for £300 in cash has gone to Wayne Cornish & girlfriend Amy Hayes, the 3rd time their number has been drawn in the last 2 years.  The accumulator was £60 and standing next to Wayne was the winner, Mr Oliver Smith, (I'll have that tenner you owe me now Smith G.H ).  The accumulator will go back to £ 50 for next months draw, be there.

P.S - Sorry Zoe West, I was told you were Reanne Westlake and put that in the report. Have changed it now. I'm sure Reanne improved aswell.

3/6/08.   Some of the main points made at the AGM
Some of the main points at this years AGM were that Adrian Warburton will again be in charge of the young 1st team, Richard Pinkus has stepped down from the 2nd team job, and the position was not filled on the night so if you know anyone who would be interested get in touch with Rich.  After a good season by the ladies team, it has been confirmed that they will be moving up a division in to the South West Womens League where they will meet the likes of Plymouth Argyle reserves and apparently means they are now the most senior team at the club now.  Aaron is looking for new quality players so if you think you have what it takes contact Aaron.
The committee were re-elected with Wizzer Wise was voted on to the committee and immediately set about discussing the improvement of the pitch which hopefully will see a good invest soon put in to the pitch.  Senior match fees have been increased to £ 3.50 per game but there will be no charge for training this season.  Training was discussed at the meeting and pre season will start on 9th July, about 1 month to go then everyone!!!
