27/4/08.   Under 18's win Cornwall cup with Hopcroft hat-trick.
Bude Under 18's win Rathbone TrophyThe Rathbone Cup is coming to Broadclose after the under 18's team destroyed a strong looking Millbrook team. After going one nil down Bude started to relax and play some decent football, Billy Hopcroft equalising and paying tribute to the injured Matt Warburton with a spcially made t-shirt, Stevie Box then took the lead for Bude and celebrated with a dodgy somersault.  Hopcroft increased the lead early in the second half and as Millbrook were reduced to 10 men, Glen Bickle headed in at the back post from the resulting free kick, Hopcroft grabbed his hat trick from the penalty spot on the second time of asking to finish off a superb Bude performance.  Celebrations continued back on the bus, back at the Kiss and then in to the night back at Hopcrofts' house. Got to be done. Well done boys you truly deserved that cup.

Photos from the day are now in the 'Photo Gallery'.

27/4/08.   Ladies team through to cup final after big win against Saltash.
The ladies are through to the Sandy Lodge county cup final after beating Saltash over 2 legs 11 goals to 4 and a second leg win of 6 goals to 2.  Sarah BAdham was in top form grabbing four goals and Leanne Stanbury scoring the other two.  They will now meet either Torpoint or Launceston who are in the other semi final and who have finished the top two teams in the league.

Well done girls on finishing fourth in the league, just four points off the top of the league with a stunning mid week 3-0 win against runners up Launceston.

24/4/08.   Matt Warburton out for 12 months after broken leg..
Matt Warburton - On the mendBude under 18's and 1st team goal keeper Matt Warburton broke his leg last night in a 1st team game against local rivals Holsworthy. After just 10 minutes Matt was in an accidental collision with a Holsworthy striker and it was immediately clear he was in trouble. The paramedic was quick and done a great job on Matt. Matt was taken to Barnstaple hospital where it was confirmed he had snapped his fibula and his tibia,  he has had his leg operated on and a plate has been fitted and unfortunately it looks like Matt is going to be out from footie for the next 12 months.

He's gutted that he's missed out on this weekends final at Liskeard but being only 17 Matt will definitely get a lot more opportunities for big games like this.

Everyone at the club wish you the best Matty and hope you get better quickly bud, Bere Alston football club have also sent their best wishes and for a speedy recovery.

14/4/08.   Under 18's through to Cornwall County cup final. Book your bus seat.
The Rathbone Cup final which the Under 18's will be in against Millbrook is to be held week on Sunday, 27th April and will be played at Liskeard with a 2.30pm kick off. Hopefully a big crowd will be going down to support the boys.

There is now a bus going down to this game and it will be leaving the Sports hall at 11.45. It's £ 5 for a seat on it and if you want more info about it or want to book your place speak to Adrian Warburton on 01288 361842.

Scorer Glen Bickle9/3/08.   Under 18's through to Cornwall County cup final.
The under 18's team managed by Adrian Warburton are through to the Rathbone Cornwall cup final after a narrow one-nil victory against Foxhole.  Glen Bickle (right) scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot after Billy Hopcroft had missed a previous penalty.  The boys will now meet one of the competitions favourites Millbrook in the final and the time and place will be announced soon, so watch this space.  Well done boys.
8/3/08.   £300 Wroes vouchers at 200 Club Draw finally go to Dave Cornish
The winner of the March 200 club draw went to Dave Cornish who has won £ 300 worth of Wroes vouchers.  After Gary Dinshaw pointed out that number 146 was not his future mother in laws number, Clive double checked and thought Smith had said 147, so Mr Cornish was confirmed as being the true recipient of number 146, well done Gar.
The  £130 accumulator draw was then made and Docker Philps' number was drawn out but Docker was not at the draw so the accumulator rolls over to the April draw.  Getting quite high now so make sure you're at the draw in April for a chance of winning the prize.

11/2/08.   Have your say on the future of grassroots football & win 2 England Tickets
The FA’s National Game Strategy 2008-12 will outline how we will work both nationally and locally to develop football to ensure you can all enjoy the game in a safe, positive environment.

Nearly 20,000 football participants and providers have already had their say in the most fundamental review to date of the state of grassroots football in England. Having your say is important because the FA want to ensure the Strategy delivers what you want for football over the next four years.

It’s important to the FA that they now get your feedback on what you think needs to be done to improve football at a local level.

The FA will be doing this through a series of consultation events with clubs, leagues and referees to discuss the forthcoming National Game Strategy 2008-2012 and what aims and objectives within that format we have in Cornwall.

There are only a couple more days left to have your say and enter the draw for a chance to win 2 tickets to watch an England World Cup qualifier game.

28/1/08.   1st team get home draw in cup quarter final
The first teams' reward for beating cup holders Godolphin is a home draw against either local rivals Morwenstow or Tamarside in the quarter final of the league cup.  Bude have already drawn twice against Morwenstow in the group stages of the cup and they also have to play them in the Westward Ho! cup. Tamarside were a very strong side last season, but have lost a couple of players this year but they are sure to still be a difficult side to beat.

The ladies team are through o the semi-final of the Cornwall County cup after defeating Torpoint 3 goals to 2, a tightly fought game saw Budes goals come from Sarah Badham, Lizzie Jenkins and Katie Horstmann. Well done girls!!

Norman Foster suffers hand injury - Bude Town FC12/1/08.   Get better soon Norm!!
Everyone at the club wishes 1st team wing wizard Norman Foster a speedy recovery after breaking his hand this week.  Norms been having a great season so far after a season off through injury.

Hope you weren't drunk when you did it Norm, or actually it may have been better, numb the pain and that, good idea.

Get yourself back soon bud.

12/1/08.   Holiday vouchers won in January '200 Club' draw.  Xmas draw also made.
The winner of the January 200 club draw went to Jeff Colwill who has won £ 300 worth of holiday vouchers and was at the club to receive them well done Jeff.

12/1/08.   1st team start the new year in style with cup upset
Hopefully this will be things to come from the club in 2008. The 1st team on Saturday put the current league cup holders and unbeaten Premiership team Godolphin out of the competition beating them 4-3 after extra time with gals from Tommy Statton, Dan Midelton, Josh Kerslake and Billy Hopcroft. Take away Chads and there was an average of 18 across the team so this was a superb win and won the club The Sunday Independent 'Team Of The Day' award.  Full match report on 1st team fixture page.
They now need to take this form in to their league games. Well done boys
2/1/08.   Happy New Year Everyone
Hope everyone drunk and ate too much over Christmas.  It's time now though to get back to the football starting this weekend for the teams.

Reviewing the first half of the season, the 1st team are going quite well. They finished fourth in the league cup which means they progress to the knock out stages where they will face one of the favourites Godolphin. In the league they have played just 6 games, so have some games in hand. They are currently about third from bottom but doing well in the games in hand could see them go up to about second or third in the table.
The 2nd team are currently having an average season for their standards, although 6th in the league they have some catching up to do if they want to be in the top couple of teams which is where they should want to be. In the Launceston cup they were knocked out by Launceston in the first round.
The ladies team are having a much better time this season under the new managerial expertise of Aaron Westlake and are currently fourth in the league.  They are through to the Cornwall Cup quarter final and also the Sandy Lodge Cup semi final.
Overall the young teams are all doing well and we hope 2008 will be a special year for all those involved in the club.
Good luck to all the teams for the coming year, both senior and youth.

Everyone on the committee wish anyone involved in the club a very happy new year, come on Bude!!!

The winner of the December 200 club draw went to Steve Bate who has won £ 300 worth of Co-Op vouchers, well done Steve.

Wadebridge about to be knocked out?????17/11/07.   1st team through to knockout stages
The 1st team are through to the knockout stages of the East Cornwall league cup after beating Lifton at home 4-1.  With the top four progressing Bude had to beat Lifton to come fourth.  They will get to play the group winner of one of the four groups which will be a tough task.
This weekend the 1st team will be facing the unbeaten Wadebridge who are also two divisions above them in the Cornwall Senior cup. Could there be an upset on the cards.  Turn up Saturday (2pm kick off) to find out.

The ladies team also had a superb cup win beating third division Tremough 23 goals (yes 23) to Tremouths' 1 goal.  Well done girls!!

10/11/07.   Andrew Etheridge wins November 200 Club draw
The November draw saw Andrew Etheridge being drawn out for the £ 300 Brooks Garden Centre vouchers.  The accumulator draw was up to £ 90 and Amy Hayes and Wayne Cornish were drawn out.  They are usually regulars at the draw, but were out for a meal that night. An expensive meal that's just turned out to be.
5/11/07.   1st Team draw Wadebridge in Cornwall Senior Cup
The first teams win last week against St.Ives sees them pitting their wits at home against unbeaten Peninsula league 1 west team, Wadebridge.  Wadebridge currently have a 100% record winning all their league games this season, so will be coming to Broadclose full of confidence.  Bude will definitely need to be completely on top of their game if they are to cause an upset against a team flying in a league two above Bude.  Bring em on we say.
5/11/07.   M&Co Fashion Show is a great success
Fashion Show at The Falcon Hotel
The M&Co fashion show organised by Julie Hodgson and Katie Fookes and held at The Falcon Hotel last Tuesday was a great success with a complete sell out and saw over 200 women and a few blokes having a great night.  M&Co (formerly Mackays) were superb in allowing the club to take over their Barnstaple shop in order to fit the models with their latest range of women's and children's clothes and accessories.  The 13 models were also able to wear the latest designer sunglasses which were kindly supplied by the Bude Eye Centre of Queen St, Bude.  The show lasted for more than hour with a modern dance performed by Charlotte Jenkins and Ruby Ash in the middle.  Bude Hairdressing were kind enough in doing the models hair and some of them were fitted with amazingly realistic hair extensions. The evening raised over £ 1,000 for the football club and also £ 96 for M&Co's charity the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. Thanks goes to the The Falcon for the use of their hotel, to Bude Eye Centre & Bude Hairdressing for exhibiting their products, to all the models for bravely getting up on the catwalk and for everyone who came and supported the club.

Photos from the evening are now up in the Photo Gallery.

Steve Bickle - Boots to be hung up13/10/07.   Steve Bickle to hang up his boots
Steve Bickles' glittering career has come to a sudden end.  After playing in a veterans game for Bude at Kilk his studs got caught in the ground and went over on his ankle after 75 minutes, he was carried off the pitch with a suspected broken ankle.  He thought the best medicine for it would be the pub and after a few hours there he thought he was right, the pain had gone.  This morning though the medicine had worn off and realised he had better go to hospital where he had an x-ray and early indications show it's not broken but he has some serious swelling around the lower region (I am on about his ankle here.)  He must go back in a couple of days when the swelling has gone down to have it double checked.  Whilst being interviewed Steve confirmed that this was his last ever football match, he's never bloody playing again (I think was his words).  He is hanging his boots up, well, giving them back to Glen anyway.  I think there must be more crutches within the club now than most of the hospitals in Cornwall.  I'm sure Alf has offered to return the favour of getting the morning papers and milk for Steve after Steve's recent spell helping Mr Dinshaw.
Seriously though, we all wish Steve the best in his recovery, hopefully it's not broke and you'll be on the mend again soon buddy.
13/10/07.   October 200 Club won by the late Maggie Davey
The October draw saw the late Maggie Daveys' name drawn out for the £ 300 Woolacotts vouchers.  The accumulator draw would have gone to Ian Lamble, but unfortunately Ian was not at the draw.

Well done to England for beating the French and getting through to the Rugby World Cup final which will be next Saturday evening against South Africa who have already given England a good hammering in the World Cup.

9/9/07.   New forum up 'n' running
I have just set up a new forum which you can have access through to by clicking on the 'Chat/Forum' button on the left hand panel.  The previous one was getting too much spam and unnecessary rubbish through on it so I'm hoping this updated one will stop a lot of that coming through.  You will need to re-register on the forum, so just click on the register button when you're in there, add your details, and then you can chat away.  Hopefully there wont be any teething problems, but any trouble let me know.
8/9/07.   September '200 Club' Winner goes to Ray Bale

30/8/07.   Winner of 2007 annual duck race is little Jessica Wallis
Jessica Wallis - winner of the Duck Race for Bude Town FC 2007
Budes' annual duck race was a great success with over 500 ducks being sold for this years event.  The race kicked off just after the 7pm as originally planned and with the tide coming in the timing was perfect (for once).  The race itself was competitively fought with the eventual winner leading from the half way stage, and duck number 142 won with owner young Jessica Wallis taking home the £100 first prize (Don't spend it all on sweets Jessica).  Second place went to a C.Gilbert from Bude and the third prize of £ 40 was still waiting to be claimed.

More pictures of the duck race have now been added to the Photo Gallery.

Bude Town FC Legend that is Pete Thompson16/8/07.   Pete Thompson leaves us for pastures new
We have recently had to say farewell to one of our staunch club members in the shape of Pete Thompson.

Pete came to Bude In 1997 and soon got involved in community activities being involved with the cricket club and also the football club in 1998.  He came on to the committee and also took his referees exam and started 'running' the line for the 1st team.  In fact Pete was voted linesman of the year by the East Cornwall Premier League in two consecutive seasons 2000 and 2001.

Always supportive of the club functions and events, Pete was a valuable member and was very well liked around the club and town.  It was a pleasure having you around Pete, and we are sure if there is anything you will miss, it will be the banter from the spectators (not!!) and yer pint and pasty after the game.  Everyone at the club would like to wish you good luck in your new life Pete away from us and hope you keep in touch. cheers.  R.P

I would like to add it's been great knowing you Pete, you were the sort of person who did a lot of work in the background for the club and now you're gone it will be realised how much you did.  I can still remember the night we were coming back from a game from Barnstaple way and although I wasn't in your car, I heard when we got back 'that Pete was driving along, came to an island in the middle of the road, didn't quite know which way to go round it, so went right up over the island and on to the bollards', this was one of the funniest things I had heard in ages, luckily everyone was all right and I think the car survived.  Good luck Pete!!!   G.H.

A general knowledge quiz was held after the draw, well done to Shelley and Ian for all your hard work in arranging the draw and being quizmasters.  It was a great turnout for the quiz, slightly spoilt by certain individuals eating a draw prize, (you know who you are, tut, tut.), but generally a good night was had by all.
