Latest News In December 2009
24/12/09.    Half time season review.
It's Christmas already which means we should be nearly half way through the season, but with the rubbish weather conditions this season there's probably going to be a big fixture pile up come the end of season.

The first team had a superb start to the season, unbeaten in their opening 10 games and briefly going top of the Premier division. After going out in the first round of the Cornwall Senior cup, they then went on and lost their next 3 league games. Since then though there has been no league matches in 6 weeks, although they win in the Torridge cup only to be kicked out because of ineligible player. They also remain in the Westward Ho cup after beating Barnstaple last week. Back in the league they still remain strong in 3rd place, but have a lot of the big boys still to play and will be starting 2010 with local rivals Morwenstow. The aim is to push for an opportunity to play in next seasons Peninsula league. A lot of work is needed from now on !!

After gaining promotion to the North Devon Senior league the second team have struggled to pick up early season points, only gaining one win so far and are currently 12th in the league. The squad is now though looking a bit stronger and they are unbeaten in the last 2 games, so the second half of the season looks more promising and they still have cup competitions to play for.

The ladies' season has been up and down, winning one week, losing the next and then winning again. The weather again has stopped them from playing since 1st November, but manager Aaron will be looking to get a more consistent winning run going to boost their current mid table position and maybe pick up a trophy in one of the cups.

Good luck to all the teams for the rest of the season.

Don't forget Boxing day derby. The reserve team are playing local rivals Kilkhampton with a 11am kick off. Come and watch, should be great match and hopefully a big crowd !!!

12/12/09.    Good night had by all at Family Fortunes night.
It was a great night had by all who attended the Family Fortunes quiz night on Saturday. Richard Pinkus' 'family' were the eventual champions winning by just 1 point after the final question with Herbie Goodgroves' ' family' being pipped in to second place.
Thanks to compere and chairman Graham Hodgson along with assistants Robin Worden and Julie Hodgson.

The £300 '200 Club' Co-Op vouchers were drawn and the £100 accumulator draw was not claimed so rolls over to the new year !!

Lots of prizes for the Christmas draw went, thanks to Gina and Gary for getting the prizes.

Thanks again to everyone who made the effort to come and make the night an enjoyable one for all, Merry Christmas !!!!!!

12/12/09.    1st team thrown out of Torridge Cup!!.
'
It is with deepest regret that I have to report the 1st teams expulsion from this years Torridge Cup tournament. I made a mistake when registering the players for the competition. Unfortunately I neglected to include the name of Billy Hopcroft. I took the names from the current list I have for players registered for the Club for all competitions for this season. Unfortunately, because Billy didn't commit himself to the Club until the season was well under way, I neglected to add him to that list.  Having played the game against Torrington in the first round and walloping them 4-1, I brought this matter to the attention of the cup committee before it was picked up by them. I explained why this had come about, and said that we had not in any way tried to deceive by playing an unregistered player, and that it was purely an administrative error, and a mistake on my behalf as Club secretary when submitting the form. I pleaded that the team should not be punished, as they had no knowledge of this whatsoever. If punishment was necessary it should be against myself by means of a fine, or whatever, due to an administrative error, not a playing violation. I thought that maybe, as this is their centenary year, and they had allowed entries at no charge, they would have a bit of compassion. But, although they commended me for bringing it to their attention, "RULES IS RULES".

'Well you wouldn't expect anything else from North Devon would you. I do apologise to the Club most sincerely, and to the players in particular.
Anybody want my job?!!'

Pinky (Club Secretary).
3/12/09.    Family Fortunes night and 200 Club Draw next Saturday.
Family Fortunes Fun Night You may have already seen the posters up or been given a flyer but just a reminder on Saturday the 12th December with about an 8pm start we are holding a 'Family Fortunes' night. Teams of 4 are required and similar to the game show you will be given various questions and your teams will need to come up with the 5 most popular answers, with points gained and prizes given for the top teams, easy!!
You don't need to have brains for this one so it'll be great fun for anyone and everyone.

It's also the December '200 Club' draw with £300 of Co-Op vouchers up for grabs and for all 200 club members present on the night, you'll have a chance to win the accumulator prize which is now up to £100 in hard cash.

In the Torridge Cup the 1st team travelled to play Torrington and came away with a 4-1 victory.  Two goals came from Steve Hackett with Tommy Statton and Billy Hopcroft grabbing one a piece to see them safely progress to the next round and hopefully they continue this winning mentality in to their next league game when they travel to Elburton Villa this Saturday.

The November 200 club draw was made on Saturday and the winning number drawn out was 110. Mr P Sluggett of Holsworthy was the lucky winner and receives £300 worth of Brooks garden centre vouchers. 7/11/09.    2nd team go out in Combe Martin Cup.
The 2nd team went out of the league cup after a 5-3 loss against the current league leaders Chittlehampton.  Bude went in at half time at two all with goals John Clayton and a penalty from Jason Stewart. The home side scored three good goals in the second half and although Bude pulled one back it wasn't quite enough against the unbeaten Chittlehampton side, but hopefully they can take this performance in to the league match on Saturday against second placed Braunton and start climbing the table.

Ollie TD Trophy12/9/09.   Smith wins Technical Director trophy.
Ollie Smith skippered his Chelsea team to win the Technical Directors trophy. With both teams made up from committee members and a few 'proper' players in an enjoyable game Smith got his 1st win in 3 years and also saw him get on the score sheet with a well taken toe-poked penalty.  Smith was presented with the trophy after the game and a first for Smith saw him get his wallet out and fill the trophy up, well done Oll.  (More pictures are now in the gallery)
