Marazion
0-1 Bude
In a well-contested game, in which neither side were able to take
opportunities to score, a draw looked the most likely result. Bude began
the stronger, and pegged Marazion in their half for most of the first
period. However, with Sarah Dickson, Carol Allen and the home sides best
player on the day Lindsey Williams all in top defensive form, Bude were
unable to score. The main talking point was when goalkeeper Jane Wills
made a save but nearly fumbled the ball over the goal line, but the
officials determined that it had remained in play. A similar pattern
occurred in the second half and when the goal finally arrived for Bude
it was direct from a corner. Marazion failed to deal with a high ball,
as Allen deflected the ball into the net. This sparked the home side,
and Marazion finally began to push Bude back into their own box whist
managing to keep the ball in midfield. Substitutes Sally Freeman, Amy
Sainsbury and Deborah Bennett were introduced which gave the side a lot
more energy, as both Lindsey Williams and Sarah Winn both went close to
equalising. Disappointed not to be level, Marazion were cautious not to
throw too much into attack, in what was the first of a two-legged tie,
and remain positive that the deficit can still be recovered.
