Natural Bath Cup Match

Bude 3      Torpoint 1

Bude played Torpoint in the final of the Natural Bath and Body Store Cup on 15th May.

It was a bad start for Bude when Torpoint passed their way into the goal within the first minute but this did seem to push Bude into action.  Within 2 minutes a free kick in the box almost levelled the score but Torpoint put everyone behind the ball and managed to direct it wide.  On the counter attack Torpoint's Donna Gage went one on one with keeper Lisa Cornish but was denied a goal.  Unfortunately Donna injured herself on landing and was stretchered off with a twisted knee.

It was Katie Horstmann who found the equaliser when Lisa Cornish's goal kick was met by Leanne Stanbury and taken up the line to cross into Katie to place past the keeper at the near post.  The Torpoint attacks continued but Steph Haydon made some amazing tackles to deny them.  Torpoint came close to gaining the lead with several corners and increasing pressure in the box but stout defending by Haydon, Claire Gifford and Corrine Salt combined with dominant goalkeeping by Lisa Cornish prevented another goal.

It was Bude who took the lead just before half time when Leanne Stanbury's fabulous free kick looped in over the Torpoint keeper and it remained 2-1 at the break.

The second half began with both sides hunting for a goal but Bude seemed to want it more.  With Lizzy Jenkins and Anita Symons winning every challenge in midfield they were able to link up with forwards Katie Horstmann and Sarah Badham and played some very pretty football.  The pairing of Steph Haydon and Leanne Stanbury was fantastic on the left wing - their understanding of each other allowing them to interchange at will, confusing Torpoint and creating numerous chances.

Leona Marsh worked her socks off as usual up the right wing and Sarah Badham was a tyrant to the Torpoint midfield, never giving them time to settle.  It was this pressure that saw Badz win the ball and drive on past the Torpoint defence.  Rounding the keeper she slotted in the net to make it 3-1.

Little Sarah Underwood was unlucky not to increase the lead, her pace enabling her to speed past the defence she shot wide and was also denied by the keeper but it finished 3-1.

Bude celebrated the end of season with a winning streak.
