Bude 2-2 Newquay
Res.
Bude played Newquay Reserves on 2nd April in the first leg of the
Sandy Lodge Cup semi final. Bude were spurred on by their performance
midweek against Newquay 1st team where although they lost 5-0 they
played some fantastic football and frustrated the unflappable Newquay
who fly high in the South West Womens Combination league. Newquay
Reserves started well and pressured the Bude defence from the off.
Keeper Lisa Wilson made a super save to deny them the opener. In a
match that is always even and competitive Bude took the lead when
Captain Lizzy Jenkins headed in from a Lucy Olde corner. Despite
numerous attacks Bude could not increase the score line and were dealt
a bow when an injury to speedy Leanne Stanbury ended her match. With
both sides playing a loaded midfield chances were created at both ends
and a good passing move saw Tamsin Keat slip past the Bude defence and
angle home to level.
The home side came out for the second half determined and no-one is
more determined than Lucy Olde. After a period of intense Bude attack
Lucy rifled home a screamer from just outside the box. The leap for
joy said it all. With 15 minutes to go Bude were looking to increase
the score line and the Newquay keeper made some vital saves. The
visitors continued to break and a throw in resulted in the equaliser 5
minutes from time from Kim Eke.
