Bude played the first game of the season away to
Taunton Town FC. The match
started well for the visitors who were 3-0 up within 5 minutes,
Tegan
Nichols scoring within 30 seconds and gaining her second shortly
after, Dani
Salt making the third. Katie Horstmann showed skill to get Bude's
fourth,
lobbing the keeper expertly to find the net. Dani Salt got her
second with
her trademark run, weaving in and out of players to find herself one
on one
with the keeper who she neatly passed. Taunton pulled one back on
the break
and this seemed to spur them on, a brief spell of pressure being
ably
absorbed by the Bude defence. With Bude having all of the pressure
it was
only a matter of time before they scored again and Tegan made her
hat trick
to make it 1-6. Katie Horstmann eased the pressure just before half
time
when she pounced on a perfect pass to knock in for 1-7.
Captain Leona Marsh spurred her team on in the second half and
determination
from the visitors resulted in Marsh scoring the eighth Bude goal.
Taunton
were more active after the break and with the visitors lacking
concentration
they profited from a free kick to make it 2-8. But Bude were not
finished,
and Tegan Nichols made it 4 on her debut as she scored the ninth.
With subs
Sarah Badham and Anita Symons introduced, the pace increased and
Bude hit
the woodwork more than once. With most of the pressure Bude did not
look
like losing and they sealed the win when Leona Marsh made it the
perfect ten
just before the finish.
The match finished 2-10
