St. Ives 1-4 Bude
In perfect conditions at the Saltings, St Ives started brightly,
working well as a unit to put pressure on their north Cornwall
opponents. The majority of the play in the opening ten minutes was
in their attacking half but they failed to make the most of any
goalmouth action to take the lead. Bude went two nil up thanks to 2
superb strikes from outside the area. However, the Saints pulled one
back after Anna Curtis made a trademark individual run down the left
hand side of the pitch before executing a pinpoint cross to the feet
of Nikki Ellis who coolly placed it in the back of the net. St Ives
had more goal scoring opportunities but were denied by a strong Bude
defence. The visitors managed to take a 3-1 lead into the changing
rooms but the match was still hanging in the balance. Instead of
raising their game, St Ives seemed to lose their tempo, allowing
their opponents more time on the ball and space to create the
majority of the attacks in the second half. Rosie Chapman earned the
accolade of 'player of the match' for the Saints for her sterling
work at the back, while Susan West once again displayed some great
goalkeeping, tipping 2 rifling shots over her crossbar. The final
4-1 score line perhaps flattered Bude but enabled them to cement
their second place in the league, while St Ives are still searching
for their first points of the season. They take a break from action
this weekend. Goal scorers for Bude were Lucy Olde (2), Dani
Salt and Sarah Badham.
