League Match
St.Blazey 1
Bude 3
Bude played away to St Blazey on 30th
Sept and began well, dominating the play with numerous chances denied
only by the on-form Blazey keeper.
Despite this pressure it was Blazey who scored first on 20 minutes when
Stacey Dickenson’s shot sneaked in at the front post. Undeterred, Bude
got back to the job at hand and Lizzy Jenkins was unlucky not to score
as her free kick ricocheted off the cross bar.
Blazey’s Anna Wherry reads the game well and combined with her pace she
was a constant threat to the Bude defence but they communicated well and
held firm. Wherry had a chance to increase the lead as she broke
through but a fine save from Bude keeper Sandra Gosling denied her.
It was only a matter of time before Bude scored and it was left back
Steph Hayden who created the equaliser, her shot cross pitch found Leona
Marsh who neatly chipped the keeper. Within 2 minutes Bude had taken
the lead when a pinpoint Dell Birkenshaw throw was slammed into the net
by Katie Horstmann.
Bude upped the pace again in the second half. Attacking from the wings,
man of the match Leanne Stanbury and the ever-young Leona Marsh ran like
the wind as usual but it was super striker Katie Horstmann who scored
the only goal of the second half, shooting with backspin it careered off
the crossbar to hit the line and curl in. Stout defending prevented any
serious Blazey attack including Corrine Salt calmly doing a ‘pooper
scooper’ over an oncoming attack! Leanne Stanbury was unlucky not to
further increase the lead as her cracking shot from the left was saved
by the Blazey keeper. The match finished 1-3
