Bude played Newquay away on Sunday 4th October. A
good start for the visitors saw them press the Newquay goal - Nikki
Cornelius was unlucky not to score in the first few minutes as her
shot hit the crossbar. It was Bude though who scored first when
birthday girl Steph Haydon was first to react to a poor clearance and
shot past the outstretched keeper. Further pressure from the visitors
saw Anita Symons, Bryonie Lapham and Sarah Badham all have chances
but without the final finish. Newquay also had chances and were
dangerous on the break. It was Helen Stubbs who levelled when her
deflected shot spun out of keeper Lizzy Jenkins' hands into the net.
Another home goal followed shortly after - an unstoppable shot from
outside the box finding the top right corner. After a stern halftime
team talk Bude started the second half determined and pushed for an
equaliser, Adele Birkenshaw driving her team on from the centre.
Newquay also upped their game and it took some wonderful controlled
defending from Corrine Salt to deny them. Despite all their efforts
Bude could not find another goal and the match finished 2-1 to the
hosts.
