JAIPUR
CORNWALL LGE DIV.1
Marazion 4-1 Bude
A vital win and an excellent performance from an improving Marazion
team. Having failed to beat their opponents in three previous attempts
this season, they finally were able to produce the victory they wanted.
In first half dominated by Marazion, league top scorer Jo Barker had
several great chances but the score line remained goalless. They also
relied in dependable home goalkeeper Jane Wills making a superb double
save, following the one Bude chance for the half. Sarah Dickson and the
whole Marazion back four were continuing some excellent form and were
determined not to concede. Bude however managed to improve at the start
of the second period. A Liz Jenkins trademark free kick, which hit the
post, gave Bude a surprise lead as their centre forward hit home on the
rebound. Bude tried to press home the advantage with Marazion somewhat
dazed after having so much of the game but with Lindsey Williams and
Anika Kearey terrific in midfield, Marazion staged a superb comeback. It
took a piece of skill from Marazion’s player of the match Sarah Winn, to
get them back in the game. She was able to display superb control and
composure, to outstrip the Bude defence and pass her well placed shot
into the corner of the net. With confidence restored Marazion continued
to attack and now pushed forward in numbers, especially through Kirsty
Olds and Carly Jacka on the left flank. Jo Barker finally found the
space and goal she deserved to take the lead, as the brave Bude keeper
was finding her-self under constant pressure. This was soon followed by
a Carly Jacka special, as her super left foot strike from distance hit
the top of the Bude goal. Barker then completed the scoring, to seal the
points. The most pleasing result of the season for Marazion, who
displayed excellent spirit to come back against an ever dangerous Bude
side.
