Dobwalls 3
- 2 Bude
Both Bude and Dobwalls needed to win this game to steer clear of
relegation worries. It was Dobwalls first game since way before Xmas and
their lack of match practice showed during periods of the game. However
they showed a lot of character to come from behind on two occasions and
eventually win the game. Dobwalls had the best of the early play but
found themselves 1-0 down after 14 mins. Dobwall's keeper, Becky Steed,
initially saved well from a good, wide angled shot, only for the
deflected ball to fall straight onto the head of a Bude player in the
centre of goal, from where it was easily nodded in to the open net. The
rest of the first half was evenly contested as Dobwalls strived to find
an equaliser, and Bude looked to extend their lead. But Dobwalls were
out of luck as a great shot from Francesca Young clipped the far post
and an effort from Lucy Borthwick also hit the woodwork. As half time
approached, Borthwick missed a good chance from in front of the goal but
soon made amends when she calmly dispatched a second similar chance for
the equaliser.
The score was 1-1 at half time with everything still to play for. Again
it was Bude who took the lead, but on this occasion Dobwalls struck back
immediately from the kick off as Francesca Young chipped over the keeper
to make it 2-2. Dobwalls substitue, Siobhan Howe, then followed up on an
earlier effort to grab the third and winning goal. Bude exerted
prolonged spells of pressure on the Dobwalls goal as they searched for
an equaliser, and Becky Steed came to the rescue on several occasions as
she dived across the goal to deflect attempts around both posts.
Dobwalls were happy to here the final whistle and take the points.
