League Cup Match
Mullion 1 Bude 1
A 1 all draw against
Mullion on Sunday 4th was enough to send Bude through to the
Sandy Lodge cup semi final. Having taken a 5-2 lead in the first round
Bude felt quite comfortable and Mullion had all to play for. This
showed in the first half an hour as the home team piled on the pressure
and it took stout defending from Lisa Cornish and Steph Hayden to deny
them. Bude finally found their composure and started to attack with
force, Anita Symons, Katie Horstmann and Leona Marsh all having shots on
goal. Further chances came and went with the home keeper making some
fine saves but it was Bude who scored first when Katie Horstmann shot
low into the left hand corner past the keepers outstretched hand. The
second half began well for the home team as a good drive by Alice Rae
saw her cross being deflected into the goal to level the score. Bude
searched for the winner and created yet more chances, Leona Marsh and
Leanne Stanbury feeding the waiting strikers from the wings and Dell
Birkenshaw closing every counter attack down in the middle. Mullion
were looking for the win and pushed Alice Rae up front. Slick passing
enabled her to break through on several occasions but Sandra Gosling was
dominant in goal and communicated well with her defence to keep the
final score at 1-1.
