It was a game of missed chances
when Bude played Charlestown away on Sunday 8th Jan.
Sarah Badham was lively up front and created many chances in the
first ten minutes. Her driving run resulted in her being brought
down for an early penalty, but she shot it narrowly wide. In very
heavy conditions, Lyndsey Ubly and Del Reah worked tirelessly in a
very boggy centre to control the ball and this paid off when after
several further attacks, Tegan Nichols pounced on a spilled ball to
take the lead. Leanne Stanbury was outstanding at centre back and
any break was halted by her. A mix up resulted in Charlestown
equalising, the ball trickling through the keepers legs and over the
line in the empty goal. The second half saw both sides increase
the pressure and some strong play ensued. Steph Haydon, Leona Marsh
and Anita Symons all sliding in to make great tackles. Full backs
Steph and birthday girl Zoe West joined in the attack and Badz and
Anita continued to send in great crosses. Tegan’s determination
found her one on one but Bude just couldn’t find the net. A period
of Charlestown pressure tested Bude’s heavy legs but stout defending
and good goalkeeping prevailed to keep the scoreline at a fair 1-1
draw
