Bude 3-1 Goonhavern

Bude played Goonhavern at home in leg 1 of the Jaipur cup preliminary round. The home side had a great start when they took the lead in the first few minutes when some slick passing found Katie Horstmann who powered in past the keeper. The young Goonhavern squad came right back at Bude but the defence held firm with Zoe West performing well at right back. With a continued spell of possession the visitors were unlucky not to level as they shot wide and also forced a fantastic save from Sandra Gosling. Bude had their own chances with Sarah Badham knocking in some great crosses and corners from the right. Anita Symons came closest when she hit a sweet left foot volley just wide but the score remained 1-0 at half time.
After an uplifting team talk at half time Bude came out more focused and they started the second half as the first with a quick Katie Horstmann goal. The home side continued to apply the pressure with Dani Salt and Leona Marsh driving up the wings. It was Dani who made it 3-0 when a cross found her in space on the left to slot in. Captain Lizzy Jenkins was also unlucky with several shots on goal - one in particular that was defended by team-mate Anita's face!
Goonhavern's L A Reeks was always dangerous on the break but Sandra was unbeatable one-on-one and it looked as though the home side were to have a clean sheet, but they pulled one back when a well taken corner found Reeks who looped it in over the outstretched keeper. Both teams attempted to increase the score line further but it finished 3-1.
