Bude  2   Yeovil 1

 

Bude played top of the table Yeovil at home on Sunday 20th September. A fast
paced game ensued and it was Bude who took the lead early on when Lisa
Cornish's goal kick was met by Sarah Badham who took the ball on and placed
past the keeper.  The midfield battle was quite even but Lizzy Jenkins
played extremely well - making some essential tackles in the centre to
unsettle the visitors.  A period of Yeovil attack saw Bude defending in
numbers but the back four was solid and cleared their lines each time, Gemma
Smith dominant once again and Steph Haydon and Corrine Salt in determined
moods.  However, just before half time the visitors levelled, their striker
latching onto the loose ball between keeper and back 4. Both sides had
chances to take the lead, a Yeovil free kick hit the cross bar and Sarah
Badham 'worried' the Yeovil defence by taking solo runs but it remained 1-1
at half time.
Soon after the re-start Bude took the lead, with Badham once again making a
nuisance of herself in midfield she ran up the right wing and was moving
across the box when she was brought down for a penalty.  Lizzy Jenkins
converted as expected.
A lively match continued; there were missed chances and defiant defending at
both ends but overall some lovely football played. Sadly the match finished
with  a sending off for Yeovil for dissent but this did not dampen home
spirits as the match finished 2-1 to Bude.
