Bude 0
Truro 2
With the Truro first teamgame
being called off, they had the luxury of selecting from the
completeTruro squad. A compliment to Bude but which nevertheless made
for a tougher fixture.
However, it was the home side who applied most of the pressure in the
first
ten - Leanne Stanbury once again linking up well with teammates Anita
Symons
and Sarah Badham and Dell Birkenshaw and Gemma Smith dominating
midfield.
Once Truro got settled they started to break through but stout
defending
from Lizzy Jenkins kept them at bay. With the visitors gaining in
confidence, Bude's experienced full backs Claire Gifford and Sarah
Bryant
had their work cut out, but read the game well. Truro had one shot hit
the
post and another expertly tipped over from keeper Lisa Cornish. Bude's
pacy
winger Leona Marsh was unlucky not to score just before half time,
winning a
challenge with the keeper but shooting just wide of the abandoned
goal.
The second half began with more pressure from the visitors and Bude
temporarily lost their composure resulting in Helen Stubbs scoring
just past
Lisa Cornish's reach. A disappointed home side pushed for an
equaliser and
created numerous chances only to be denied by the keeper again and
again.
It was an unconventional goal that doubled the visitors advantage,
Lucy
Olde's cross hitting the outside of the post it rebounded in off the
helpless home keeper.
With determination Bude pushed again to score but despite all their
efforts
just could not find the net. A very competitive and good spirited
match but
Bude will feel disappointed that they didn't take their chances in a
match
that was within their grasp.
