Bude 4 Torpoint

Bude played Torpoint at home on Sunday 25th
October. It was the visitors
who started the brightest, dominant play saw them earn a run of
corners and
Kirsty Lambert headed home to take the lead. However, the Bude
squad were
full of beans and they soon settled into the match, Lizzy Jenkins
and Adele
Birkenshaw taking control of the midfield and Leanne Stanbury
causing all
sorts of problems on the left wing. Bude levelled the scoring when
Lizzy
Jenkins was found in the box, a couple of touches allowed her to
pick her
spot. Torpoint's Paula Pearce was very quick on the break and it
took some
great goalkeeping from Lisa Cornish to keep the score level. More
Bude
pressure saw Torpoint panic and Kirsty Lambert gave away a penalty
which
Lizzy Jenkins confidently converted. The second half started well
for the
visitors, once again some strong play caused Bude to lose their
formation
and Hayley Chamberlain fired home the equaliser from the edge of the
box.
However, almost immediately Bude responded, neat football up the
right wing
resulted in a Sarah Badham cross being tapped in by Anita Symons.
There was
always the danger of Torpoint equalising, Lisa Cornish was quick off
her
line to deny several attempts and Paula Pearce hit the post but it
was Bude
who scored again when Sarah Badham took the ball past the defence
and the
oncoming keeper to tap into the empty net. A moment of confusion
saw
Torpoint have a player sent off and Gemma Smith score from the
resulting
free kick, an amazing loop into the top right corner - but this goal
was
then strangely disallowed. Despite having 10 players Torpoint pushed
to the
end and it took strong defending to deny them, especially from right
back
Nikki Cornelius who was the star player for Bude.
