Bude Town 5-0 St.Ives
Bude played St Ives at home in a top versus bottom league
clash. With the home side having all of the pressure many
chances were created but they could not seem to get the ball
into the net. The St Ives keeper played superbly and made some
sensational saves to deny the hosts time and again. It took
half an hour before the deadlock was broken when a perfectly
weighted Lucy Olde pass found Sarah Badham who angled past the
keeper and the score remained at 1-0 at half time.
The second half saw St Ives create their own chances and a
spell of pressure spurred the visitors on. But Bude Centre
back Anne Hill remained steadfast in the defence once again
and made some essential tackles. Bude further increased their
lead when Katie Horstmann powered the ball at the cross bar
where it rebounded in off the keeper. With left back Claire
Gifford combining well with Dani Salt the left sided attack
was relentless and Claire sent in some beautiful crosses.
It was the tenacity of right wing Leona Marsh that saw the
third goal as she battled through several St Ives players to
set up Lucy who slammed in from close range.
Captain Lizzy Jenkins was unlucky not to score as well as she
worked her way into the box but her lob was just too high and
edged over the crossbar. Katie made it 4-0 when a well placed
Sarah Bryant throw was neatly controlled and placed into the
top right corner.
St Ives played with spirit and their fast improving side never
gave up. They created several chances through the second half
keeping the home defence on their toes.
Substitute home keeper Sandra Gosling received a warm welcome
and enabled Lisa Wilson to play the last 10 minutes up front
where she was very lively and caused problems with some great
passes and crosses. In the last few minutes a frustrated Dani
Salt finally got her goal as she was well placed to knock in
from a Sarah Badham cross and the game finished 5-0.
