The scoreline does not reflect what
was a very even game, with the visitors seizing their chances and the
home side ruing their chances not taken! The match began quite even
with chances at both ends being cancelled out by strong defences.
Both keepers making fine saves to keep the match goalless. It was the
visitors who scored first with Coral Smith finding herself unmarked on
the edge of the 18 yard box, she looped over the outstretched hands of
Sandra Gosling. Bude levelled within 5 minutes with Katie Horstmann
rounding the keeper and tapping in. The first half remained an equal
battle with both sides hitting the bar and both keepers making fine
saves. Claire Gifford and Corinne Salt were dominant in the home
defence and at the other end Anita Symons, Katie Horstmann and Lizzy
Jenkins had so many attacks they were amazed not to take the lead but
visiting keeper Dan Bradford was outstanding, snatching shots from the
air.
The second half was again a level
fight with a full on attack from Bude, Dell Birkenshaw proving to be
the Rolls Royce of engines in the middle of midfield and wingers
Leanne Stanbury and Leona Marsh running a marathon as usual. However
it was another looping shot from just outside the area that gave
Saltash the lead and they made it 1-3 when Emma Pemberton’s shot
tumbled through the keepers legs. Bude continued to attack and
despite numerous chances they could not beat the Saltash keeper. A
goalmouth scramble in the dying minutes sealed the win for Saltash and
it finished 1-4
