Bude played Roche at home on Nov 1st and started
well, Sarah Badham and
Leanne Stanbury linking well at the front. Badz was unlucky not to
open the
scoring, shooting inches wide, then hitting the cross bar on 10
minutes.
However it was Roche who did score first, their number 16 finding an
angle
past Bude keeper Lisa Cornish. With Anita Symons and Adele
Birkenshaw
working tirelessly in centre mid, Bude soon equalised - Badz
rounding the
keeper on 15 minutes. Leanne Stanbury made it 2-1 shortly after
when she
latched onto a perfect through ball from Badz. The Roche equaliser
came on
36 minutes, Bude keeper Lisa Cornish saved the shot but the follow
up found
the net. Roche made it 2-3 at half time when an unstoppable 'cross'
from
number 16 found the very top corner.
With only 1 goal in it Bude felt the game was not lost and worked
hard to
pull it back. Leanne Clayton got stuck in on the left and Badz
continued to
make solo runs to worry Roche. Despite repeated chances Bude could
not seem
to find the net. Badz hit the crossbar a second time and Leanne
shot over.
Roche's lead was further increased when a bobbling passback saw Lisa
Cornish
do a 'Paul Robinson' (well, if it can happen to the England
goalkeeper!) At
2-4 Bude threw it all at the visitors and Leanne Stanbury gave them
hope
when she lobbed the keeper to make it 3-4. A messy last 15 saw Bude
try to
play their football but the equaliser remained elusive.
