Ladies Team Match Report

Match report for ladies team fixture

Jaipuir Womens League Div 1

Bude 2-2 Marazion

Searching for their first league win, it was Marazion who scored first when Sarah Wynn drove forward and struck a superb opener into the roof of the net. This spurred Bude on and they piled on the pressure with wingers Anita Symons and Leanne Stanbury outrunning the Marazion defence - only some great saves by visiting keeper Jane Wills denying them time and again. Marazion's pacy Jo Barker is always dangerous on the break and she kept the home defence busy but they managed to restrict her for the remainder of the half. Bude continued their pressure and Captain Lizzy Jenkins was unfortunate not to level with two free kicks curving inches wide. It was just before half time when the home side equalised - a great ball from Dani Salt found Katie Horstmann who calmly picked her place past the isolated keeper.
The second half was a copy of the first, as once again Marazion took the advantage. The excellent Lindsey Williams was now finding some space on the right, as her run and cross from the by-line found Carly Jacka on the edge of the box. Her first time shot provided the games best moment, as she made an excellent connection to volley home. Marazion could have extended their lead, both Jo Barker and Winn had further opportunities to seal the points, but a resilient Bude were determined to stay in the game. As Bude searched to level they pushed players forward, Claire Gifford at left back surging forward to combine with Anita in attack. With all efforts on the Marazion goal, the visitors had chances to break and increase their lead but keeper Sandra Gosling made some essential saves to keep the home side in it. With only 10 minutes remaining Bude threw everything at Marazion, Leanne and Dani in particular playing every position on the pitch. Corrine Salt playing up front worked well with her sister and it it was her overhead flick on for Dani that resulted in a home free kick. To Bude's elation is was third time lucky for Lizzy as she bent her trademark free kick into the top right corner and the match finished 2-2.
In the end disappointment for the away side, but Bude is normally a very difficult place to gain a win, and Marazion will draw confidence from a terrific overall performance.
