Bude 1-1 Marazion
Marazion faced a tough away fixture against league leaders
Bude, but came away with a valuable point. Making a few team
changes due to injuries, both Kirsty Olds and Danielle Thomas
were asked to play important roles and both had excellent
games. Thomas up front for the first time, and Olds in
midfield against the dangerous Danny Salt from Bude, helped
keep the game tight until half time. Goalkeeper Jane Wills was
also having an outstanding match, and was in constant action
fielding the ball against the strong wind, making several
brave saves. In the second period, captain Linda Vandenberg
led by example as her terrific long-range shot opened the
scoring. Carly Jacka and Zoe Dyson assisted Vandenberg in
closing down any long range Bude attempts on goal as the whole
team worked hard to hold their lead. Loretta Semmons and
Candice Britten were holding the dangerous Bude attack at bay
as it looked as though one goal would be enough in a scrappy
game. Bude threatened whenever their own goalkeeper had the
ball, as her long clearances were a constant threat. However
the equalizer arrived from a typical Bude set piece, when the
Sarah Badham hit home from close range after Lizzie Jenkins
effort was blocked. Neither team were able to create any real
chances late in the game as players tired on both sides,
Marazion’s Sarah Winn was looking the only player able to hold
on to the ball. The resulting draw a fair result, whilst
Marazion produced one of their best away performances this
season.
