Bude played
Launceston at home on Sunday 16th December. This local
derby is always a good battle with both sides determined to win
Bude manager Aaron
Westlake started a new formation and with an uplifting team talk he
asked for good communication and teamwork. With these words ringing
in their ears, Bude held all of the possession in the first half,
keeper Sandra Gosling was un-worked and it was Bude who came closest
to scoring as Lisa Cornish took one too many touches and her shot went
wide. Launceston’s Jill Haines tried hard to break down Bude’s
defence but was met by a resilient Steph Hayden and new left back
Leanne Stanbury dominated her area.
As expected, the visitors came out for the second half much livelier
and with the addition of Fiona Stevenson they created many more
chances. The Bude midfield equalled their spirit, winning tackles and
not allowing them to play. In a more end to end period both
sides had chances, Sandra Gosling made a fine save to keep Bude in it
and Katie Horstmann won through on goal but her shot stuck in the
thick mud. Sarah Underwood ran riot on the left wing but good
Launceston defending prevented a goal.
Both teams pressed on looking for a winner but cancelled each other
out and it remained 0-0.
This goalless result does not reflect what was a fantastic game of
football and a totally entertaining match for the spectators
