Bude started
well and were 2-0 up within the first 10 minutes, Reanne Westlake
and Katie Horstmann on target. A strong defence cancelled out any
home attack and Steph Hayden and Zoe West increased the pressure by
joining in the surge forward. The tenacious Corrine Salt made a
welcome return to the squad, tackling well in the centre of defence
and covering the full back four.
Gemma Smith
moved into midfield and controlled her area, switching play at will
and opening doors for Leona Marsh and Reanne Westlake as well as
hitting the crossbar from her own effort. New striker Stella
Metherell showed her potential up front as she held the ball and
placed well for the forwards to take on.
It was only a
matter of time before Bude scored again and a well-deserved Anita
Symons solo run made it 0-3. Shortly after a Katie Horstmann corner
was walloped in by Reanne Westlake to make it 0-4 at half time.
A change around
at the break saw Sarah Badham return to the front and she frustrated
the Bide defence with her weaving runs. With Reannaldo on a hat
trick she was always a threat but it was a counter attack from the
home side that saw the next goal - the lively number 10 shooting
past the stand-in keeper Stella Metherell.
Almost
immediately another impressive run saw Anita Symons score her second
and spur Bude on again. With legs tiring Bude played the last
25 down to 10 men but showed good fighting spirit as they stuck
together and it was slick play between Sarah Badham and Katie
Horstmann that saw Katie make her second and finish the match 1-6.
