Bude played
Barnstaple in a friendly on Sunday 31st August. Bude started well
and took the lead after 5 minutes with some slick passing - Katie
Horstmann crossing for strike partner Anita Symons to knock in. The
pressure continued from Bude with Leanne Stanbury and Leona Marsh
'worrying' the home side but it was left back Claire Gifford who
made it 2-0 with the goal of the match, looping over the keeper to
land in the far side of the net. Bude continued to control the
match - Dell Birkenshaw and Gemma Smith dominating the midfield and
it remained 2-0 at half time.
Assistant
Manager Gary Westlake tried out some new formations for the second
half bringing on the 2 Sarah's- Badham and Underwood. With their
pace and determination they made an instant impact and Badz made it
3-0 within minutes. However, Bude temporarily lost their shape and
this cost them as Barnstaple capitalised and pulled a goal back.
This encouraged the home side and they pushed forward but the
defence held firm with great performances from Sarah Bryant and
Lizzy Jenkins. In a scrappy last quarter it was Bude who came out
on top as Badz scored again to finish the match 4-1.
