Bude played Torpoint in
the County cup quarter final on 27th Jan.
The first half an hour saw
chances at both ends with Sarah Badham and Anita Symons pressing the Torpoint
defence and the home side forcing Bude into some last ditch tackles. It was
Bude who took the lead on 35 minutes as Sarah Badham took the ball to the
byline and cut back just in front of goal, the powerful shot re-bounding in
off the keeper. Torpoint twice came close to equalising just 5 minutes later
with a shot rebounding off the bar and Leanne Stanbury making a perfectly
timed tackle in the box.
The second half began well
for Torpoint as they levelled within 5 minutes but Bude continued to push
forward. Anita Symons earned Bude a free kick in the middle of the pitch and
captain Lizzy Jenkins took the shot. Torpoint headed the cross back only for
Lizzy to shoot again, this time looping just over the outstretched keeper.
With forwards Anita Symons
and Katie Horstmann linking up well they created more chances for Bude, Anita
was unlucky not to score as Katie found her unmarked in the box. Anita paid
back her strike partner shortly after, a well placed pass finding Katie one on
one with the keeper, she took it round her to slot in from a difficult angle.
With 20 minutes to go
Torpoint continued to look for goals and some determined play in the crowded
box resulted in another home goal. With the introduction of the persistent
Sarah Underwood, Bude pushed Torpoint again, but were unable to find the net.
At 2-3 the last stages of the match were edgy for the visitors, Torpoint
threw everything at Bude and it took some steadfast defending to keep them
out. Leanne Stanbury made 2 goal line clearances and keeper Lisa Cornish was
dominant throughout the match. Their efforts paid off as the match finished
2-3.
