Westward Ho Cup Match
Morwenstow 8
Bude 3
Both teams were fired up from the start with the third local derby between
these two teams this season and it was Bude who were on top from the start
pushing the home side and were soon rewarded by taking the lead, the ball
was played in to Gary Dinshaw on the edge of the box who flicked the ball
up turned and smashed a left foot volley in to the top right hand corner.
Morwenstow equalised after 20 mins when a soft penalty was awarded for an
infringement on Djamel Bousahla, Paul 'Bilk' Jenkins struck the spot kick
in to the roof of the net. Within 10 minutes the home side grabbed another
two, Jason Ferrett hitting a rare right foot shot on the edge of the box
and going in off the underside of the bar. A good run down the left
and early cross was well met by Ed Yeo who's early strike nestled in to
the bottom far corner, giving keeper Warburton no chance for the third.
Bude to their credit got back at Morwenstow and Dinshaw got his second
with a close range header. They were soon on level terms, Norman
Foster weaving down to the right hand by line, cutting back in to the box
and sweetly striking a left foot shot across the keeper and in to the back
of the net. Morwenstow though went in at half time with the lead
scoring in the 43rd minute. A quick one-two inside the box with Bousahla
saw him neatly tuck away a shot from yards out. Bude came out after
half time with all the intentions of getting back in to the game but the
home side soon increased the lead Ed Yeo tapping in a scrappy but valuable
goal. Bude's heads now dropped and over the next 15 minutes went
from 5 - 3 to 8 - 3, Morwenstow now looking like scoring on every break
and Bousahla added three more to his tally with some clinical finishing
inside the box and Herbie Goodgroves nearly added to the tally when a long
range effort hit the far post. A disastrous second half for Bude
which Morwenstow happily took advantage of sees them progress to the semi
final of the competition.
