Barnstaple started the
better of the two teams and scored after 10 minutes with a difficult near
post header from a corner. They had a better chance minutes later
when another corner found a strikers head but luckily for Bude was guided
over the bar. Bude slowly worked themselves back in to the game and
equalized after 25 minutes, Steve Hackett cut in from the right and left
foot strike ricocheted off a defender then the keeper and in. Bude
were soon in front when Tommy Statton played in Luke Potter and from just
inside the box struck his right foot shot in to the top right corner. Just
before half time Bude extended their lead when Jason Veale got in on goal
and put away a well worked move. Bude started off in control of the
second half but they either started to ease off the gas or lack of recent
games were catching up with them and Barnstaple pulled one back after 70
minutes when again from another corner the ball was misjudged by keeper
Gary Dinshaw as he came to claim the cross but it went over him allowing a
simple header on the goal line. With Barnstaple applying the pressure
Dinshaw made up for the previous error with a superb close range save
denying the visitors a third. Bude defended well enough in the end
to see them go through to the next round of the cup.
