Bude without a game in over
3 weeks and with half of the team enjoying the Easter break a little bit
too much, Bude started off struggling against a big and strong Braunton
side and the home side dominated the first half hour. They scored after 20
minutes when a deep free kick was nodded on from the edge of the box, it
looked to be going wide but a Braunton striker reacted to score from a
tight angle. Bude came more in to the game 10 minutes from half time
when Billy Hopcroft was brought down in the box and he put the keeper the
wrong way from the penalty spot. The second half was very even, for
Bude Hopcroft came close went put through on goal but his shot struck the
side netting and Wayne Cornish had a late chance when the ball fell in the
box from a free kick but Cornish couldn't quite find his footing as he put
the effort wide of the post. The game went through extra time and
finally penalties. Both teams scored their first 3 attempts, then
Budes Luke Potter had a weak effort saved down the middle, Brauntons next
attempt though hit the post, going in to sudden death, skipper Cornish
scored confidently for Bude and Brauntons was saved by keeper Gary Dinshaw,
seeing them through to the semi final where they will now meet Barnstaple
AAC at home at the end of the month. Other penalty scorers were
Hopcroft, Herbie Goodgroves, Mids and Gary Hodgson.
