Cup Match
Bude Town 3 Wadebridge 1
Bude go through to the semi
final of the East Cornwall supplementary cup after a well fought victory
against higher league opposition Wadebridge. Bude put some early
pressure on their visitors creating enough chances from the wings but
often without enough firepower in the middle. They took the lead after 15
minutes when a long ball forward from defender Gav Cornish found the
Wadebridge defence hesitant and Billy Hopcroft ran through to slide his
shot past the keeper. Bude were looking comfortable until 10 minutes from
the break as Wadebridge got themselves back in the game. Gareth Devney was
denied a goal before Mike Retter got in behind the Bude defence and tucked
his shot away to level. they nearly snatched the lead before half
time as another close range shot from Retter was tipped on to the crossbar
from Bude keeper Gary Dinshaw, the ball fell loose and another strike was
blocked on the goal line by Herbie Goodgroves. An even start to the
second half nearly saw Wadebridge take the lead but a headed goal from
Retter was ruled out for offside. Bude themselves had various
chances before they took the lead on 70 minutes, Wes Pugh just entered the
game from the bench and immediately put a low cross from the right across
the face of the goal and Dan Middleton slid in at the back post to score.
Bude then had a goal ruled out before finally settling the tie when the
crossbar was struck, the ball fell nicely to an unchallenged Dan Balsdon
who made no mistake from close range.
