League Match
Plymstock United 2
Bude 7
Budes already depleted squad was dealt a blow after
just 20 seconds when Glen Bickle put his head down to meet the ball and
got a kick to the face and was forced to be subbed. The resulting free
kick though was launched in to the box by Wayne Cornish, flicked on by
Tommy Statton, hit a defenders' shoulder and the keeper saved by couldn't
stop the ball being dragged in to the net. Plymstock nearly
equalised after 20 minutes when a loose ball 20 yards out was fiercely
struck against the Bude post. Five minutes later Bude doubled their
lead, Billy Hopcroft got in behind the Plymstock left back and squared it
across the six yard box for Statton to fire in. Budes third came on
the half hour mark, Jamie Kirklands' chipped through ball found the run of
Hopcroft whose shot was saved by the keepers legs, an eager Statton
followed up to score his second. Kirkland became provider again five
minutes in to the second half when the run of ever alive Hopcroft was
found and he ran on to score with a low shot in off the right post and end
his drought of 5 games without a goal. Statton grabbed his third and
Budes fifth 5 minutes later when his strike went in of the underside of
the bar. Plymstock pulled one back when a long range low drive from
Steve Chapman saw Bude keeper Gary Dinshaw fumble the shot back in to his
goal. With Bude under a bit of pressure Plymstock scored again,
Chapman again played in and from the edge of the box smashed an
unstoppable effort in to the top left corner. Soon after Dinshaw
redeemed himself tipping a close range effort over the bar. With 15
minutes left Bude again pulled away, Hopcroft was strong again down the
right and he chipped across the box again to Statton who thumped his shot
down the middle of the goal. With minutes remaining Bude's Simon
Chadwick tapped in for Budes seventh and final goal of the game.
