Nanpean 3 Bude 2
An even game against two of the
youngest sides in the league saw Nanpean scrape a vital win. Bude
started well and Chris Ward nearly opened the scoring when a mistimed
cross from midfield caught the keeper off his line and flew over him on to
the far post. Bude took the lead after 25 mins when Tommy Statton was
brought down in the box. He picked himself up to tuck the spot kick away.
Nanpean slowly worked their way back in to the game and were on top come
the end of the half and equalised just before half time as Ben Douglas was
fouled on the edge of the box. Skipper Andrew Avery scored after a
deflection off the edge of the wall saw the ball nestle in the corner.
Some early pressure from Bude in the second half nearly saw them re-take
the lead, Budes Dan Starkey up for a corner smashed the ball on to the
cross bar from 10 yards out, Nanpean broke quickly up the field and Bude
were left two on two, Rory Barnicle drifted free was played in and struck
an early shot low in to the far left hand corner. Nanpean soon
increased their lead with Douglas scoring from close range. Bude
managed to reduce the arrears when winger Norman Foster was played in and
coolly swept in his strike from just inside the box. Their luck
wasn't in as they piled on the pressure late on with a clear hand ball in
the Nanpean box not being seen by the referee and Bude lost out on a share
of the points.
