Cornwall League Div 1
Lifton 1 Bude 3
Lifton
produced the slightly better chances in a fairly even opening
half. After 20 mins Lifton broke Budes’ offside trap, their
striker lifted the ball over keeper Gordon Wint but his shot
went wide. Budes’ best chance of the half saw Tommy Statton
put through young Wes Pugh down the middle, his left foot
strike just went wide of the far right post. Lifton took the
lead after 40 mins when a move down the right saw a low cross
come in, a Bude player slipped and allowed the Lifton striker
to pounce from 8 yards out.
Bude piled
on the pressure right from the start of the second half but it
was Lifton who nearly doubled their lead when a 30-yard strike
smashed off the visitors crossbar. Bude then equalised
straight after, a cross from the right saw Jason Ferrett
volley back in to the box from outside the area and Statton
poked in from close range after the ball wasn’t cleared from
danger. The funniest moment of the game came next when Lifton
kicked the ball in to Budes’ half and past the defence, keeper
Wint was alert to sweep up behind and picked the ball up, he
then looked down and realised he was about 15 yards outside
his own area. The arrival of Dan Balsdon on to the pitch saw
Bude further increase their control of the game and soon took
the lead, Balsdon flicked on a header taking out two
defenders, which put Statton in on goal, and he finished well
for his second. Bude wrapped the game up minutes from the
end. Some individual brilliance from Balsdon saw him beat
three players out on the left; lay a simple ball across the
six-yard box and Pugh arrived for a simple tap in.
