League Match
Lanreath 2 Bude 2
Bude scored a late penalty to rescue a point away to
Lanreath, the first point they have come away with from there for a good
number of seasons. Inside the first 5 minutes Budes Luke Potter was played
in over the defence and was blatantly brought down, but the referee waved
away penalty claims. Neither team firmly took control of the first half
and it wasn't until the second half when things started to liven up. Both
teams started to create chances after the break, Lanreath had a one on one
chance saved by keeper Gary Dinshaw and the follow up was was well blocked
by Robbie Hambly, Bude came close with Mark Goodman striking the woodwork
and Gary Hodgson hitting the crossbar with a near post header. It was
Lanreath who took the lead though, a corner was cleared, but played back
out to the wing, Chris Truscott swung the ball back in again and Lanreaths'
Nick Carpenter was left unmarked to head in from 6 yards out. Bude now
started to play the flowing football that had eluded them for most of the
game and equalised in the 83 minute, Tommy Statton firing low from 25
yards out in to the bottom left corner. It now looked like only one team
could win it, but as Bude moved forward a pass up-field struck the referee
who ran across the path of the ball and it shot backwards which Dan
Lawrence picked up ran through, rounded Bude keeper Dinshaw and slotted in
to an empty net. Bude showed spirit as they went at Lanreath again,
another long range effort from Goodman was tipped over by the Lanreath
keeper. The resulting corner came in and Potter was hauled to the ground,
this time the referee found his whistle and awarded a penalty in injury
time. Herbie Goodgroves done the keeper with the eyes to slot the ball in
to the bottom corner, and a draw was the final and fair result.
