League Cup Match
Lifton 1
Bude 4
Bude dominated the first half with
some of their best football of the season, the defence were solid, but
going forward they looked dangerous on every break. After Billy Hopcroft
had rounded the keeper and missed an open goal he gave Bude the lead when
some persistent work down the right saw him smash the ball past the
keeper. They were soon two nil when Stevie Box received the ball on
the right, cut inside and shot in to the far right corner. Tommy
Statton made it three when he was put through and struck from 30 yards
with a sweet left foot and the ball flew in to the top corner giving the
home keeper no chance. Bude continued to create chance after chance and on
another day could easily have seen themselves going in six or seven up at
half time. The second half was different, Lifton made some changes
and Bude took their foot of the gas, and for the first time in the game
started to cause Bude some problems. They won a penalty when keeper Gary
Dinshaw ran out of goal and put in a late tackle on the edge of the box on
a Lifton player, he made amends though saving the penalty low to his left.
After 75 mins Bude then won a penalty when Hopcroft got brought down in
the box. Norman Foster made no mistake from the spot hitting the
right hand corner. Lifton got a consolation goal in the final minute
when striker Matt Endacott was put through on goal with defender
Wayne Cornish closing down, they both went for the ball on the edge of the
box, keeper Dinshaw was already grounded thinking the ball was going to
his left, but the ball trickled past his flapping right hand. A good win
and the two teams will be meeting again this week in the final league cup
group match.
