League Cup Match
Holsworthy 2
Bude 6
Bude started brightly but went behind
after 15 minutes when a low corner was fired in along the six yard box and
a Holsworthy striker reacted to guide the ball in to the Bude net.
Bude though soon equalised when winger Stevie Box put a ball across the
face of the goal and Tommy Statton was on hand to side foot past the
keeper. It wasn't until the second half when the rest of goals
started to fly in. After 50 mins an early Norman Foster cross from
the right saw Billy Hopcroft arrive at the back post and slid to volley in
from close range. Hopcroft grabbed his second soon after when he got
caught inside the box and put the keeper the wrong way for the penalty.
Budes confidence grew as the half went on as they took control and
scored their fourth when Foster collected in the centre of the park and
with the outside of the foot thread a ball through the Holsworthy backline
to pick out Box who timed his run well, ran on and tucked the ball away.
Bude took the foot of the gas and allowed Holsworthy to get back in the
game and shoddy defending allowed a Holsworthy player to strike from
outside the box and nestle in the corner. Some great work from Budes'
Box saw him skip past the right back, cut the ball back for Hopcroft who
smashed the ball inside the near post. Hopcroft finished off
the night in style when a free kick just outside the box was taken by the
quick thinking striker who saw his shot hit the back of the net in the
final minute.
