Bude 3 Saltash 0
A very solid display saw Bude win this quarter final
encounter against a Saltash side riding high in the league. After an
even start Bude opened the scoring in the 15 minute, Wes Pugh played a
defence splitting ball through the Saltash defence to Adam Smith who ran
on and slotted low past an outcoming keeper. Smith was in a confident
mood and towards the end of the half hit the post from an acute angle
after going round the keeper. Smith doubled his and Budes tally
early in the second half when he collected the ball inside the Saltash
box, turned his marker and shot in to the bottom right corner. In the
60th minute Bude were reduced to 10 men when left back Liam Faid who was
having a great game up until this moment lunged hard in to a late tackle
and was shown a straight red. The extra man though didn't seem to give
Saltash that advantage as Bude battled and kept well organised, Saltash
should have reduced the arrears after 70 minutes when a cross from the
left picked out a Saltash striker at the back post but he blazed his
close range effort high and wide. The goal of the game and possibly the
season came in the 85th minute, a skied clearance from the Saltash
defence fell to Steve Hackett who from 45 yards out volleyed it straight
in to the left corner and eased Bude in to the semi finals !!
