League Cup Match
Bude 4 Lifton 0
Bude
played Lifton for the second week running needing a win to qualify from
the league cup group stage and they comfortably won against a weakened
Lifton side. Bude never got out of third gear as they controlled most of
the game. Bude created various chances but their efforts always kept going
straight into the Lifton keepers’ body. Bude finally broke the deadlock
mid way through the first half when Norman Foster put striker Tommy
Statton in on goal and he slotted past the keeper. Lifton had various
half chances, but home keeper Gary Dinshaw never had a serious save to
make with the defence working well to keep the ball away from danger.
Bude increased the lead just before the interval with Statton heading in
his second from a corner. Bude continued to control the game and made it
three shortly in to the second half when a mix up between defender and
keeper, saw the ball go between them both and Billy Hopcroft was on hand
to score in to an empty net. The midfield including the hard working Gio
Giodarni helped boss the game and the game was wrapped up when a well
worked move saw Shane Looker break the Liftons’ offside trap, run on and
coolly finish and send Bude in to the knockout stage where they will meet
one of the four group winners. Bude will need to be in more impressive
form this weekend as they entertain and look to cause an upset against
unbeaten Wadebridge in the Cornwall Senior Cup.
