League Cup Match
Bude 2 Holsworthy 2
This was the second of at least four
encounters this season for the two teams and again it finished with
the teams taking away a point each. It was Bude who took the lead
after 20 mins when a ball from the left was flicked on by the head of
Shane Looker to Tommy Statton who's shot found the back of the net with a
slight deflection. Holsworthy soon equalised when some good work
down the left saw the ball crossed to the right hand side, Richard
Vanstone picked the ball up and too easily got inside his marker to score.
Just before half time Holsworthy took the lead when Jason Veale ran on to
a through ball from midfield and smashed the ball in to the top right
corner from 20 yards out. The second half was an even affair and
Bude had the chance to equalise mid way through when Billy Hopcroft got
brought down in the box. Holsworthy keeper Dean Chidley guessed
right though to save Tommy Stattons' spot kick. The arrival of
substitute Jamie Kirkland added a bit more purpose to Budes play for the
final 25 mins and with 10 minutes remaining Norman Foster chipped a ball
from central midfield to Kirlkland who controlled in the box and shot low
past Chidley. Bude piled on the pressure for the last 10 minutes but
a draw looked inevitable as Steve Smeeth struck the post with a shot. A
couple of counter attacks from Holsworthy late on could also have snatched
the points had their shooting been a bit more accurate.
