League Cup Match
Bude 3
Bere Alston 4
An entertaining game saw both Bude and
Bere Alston play some great attacking football and Bude will feel a bit
hard done by in not coming away with at least a point. Bude went one
nil up after 20 mins when full back Liam Sandercock sprinted forward to
close a ball down and won a 50/50 tackle on the keeper, Sandercock shot
goalwards and a defender headed off the line, but Tommy Statton was close
by to volley in with his left foot. Bere Alston nearly
equalised when a long range effort struck the cross bar. It was Bude
though who increased their lead when Statton was put in on goal past a
shaky Bere Alston defence and Statton struck low past the keeper. Bere
Alston came straight at Bude from the start of the second half and their
pressure soon paid off with Will Westlake scoring from close range after
getting in behind the Bude defence. Soon Bude had the two goal lead
again when a Sandercock cross from the right, went deep and Statton was on
hand at the back post to head in. The two goal cushion was short
lived as Bere Alston scored two quick goals, one from a corner which Mark
Wheeler struck on to a Bude defender and looped in to the corner and then
and equaliser from Adam Reid. They then took the lead when Chris
Truscott scored with a diving header at the back post. From the kick
off, the ball was played out to Bude winger Stevie Box who had been
causing problems for the Bere Alston team the whole game, beat a couple of
players, cut inside and smashed his shot straight on to the cross bar,
Bude continued to look for the equaliser with pressure on the visiting
goal in the last 10 minutes but it never came and Bude came off the
pitch disappointed that their hard effort was not rewarded.
