League Cup Match
Bere Alston 5
Bude 2
Bude travelled to Bere Alston minus 8
first team regulars through injury and holidays, and with the oldest
player being 22 year old keeper Gary Dinshaw, Budes young side held their
own for much of the game against the Duchy Premier league champs.
Bere Alston had most of the possession during the first half, but Budes'
counter attacking style found them creating as many chances as the home
side. Bere Alstons' Chris Truscott had a 15th minute strike
disallowed after the person passing to him was ruled offside, but midway
through the half the veteran striker was on the score sheet when a neat
move saw him finish from 8 yards out. Bude came back at Bere Alston
and were soon level when midfielder Callum Watson played in Billy Hopcroft
who scored with a neatly taken strike just outside the box. Bude
took the game to Bere Alston right at the start of the second half and for
15 minutes dominated the home side, Stevie Box looking dangerous and
coming close on a number of occasions and Glen Bickle hiiting the post,
midfielder Shane Looker was also causing problems with his crosses from
the left, but that killer touch eluded this spirited side. On the
hour Bere Alston took the lead when an unmarked Kevin Blatchford scored
with a simple header, and perhaps the inexperience of Budes side
came through as suddenly they lost their shape and focus for the next 15
minutes as Bere Alston ran riot scoring three more goals through Will
Westlake, Truscott and Blatchford. Bude sorted themselves out for
the final 10 minutes and came back at Bere Alston but the damage had
already been done when Box got on the end of another Looker cross to
reduce the arrears for Bude.
