League Match
Bude
2 Tavistock 1
An entertaining game at
Broadclose saw both teams going at each other from the start and either
team could have comfortably won this game but it was Bude who finally took
the points. Tavistock were the better team in the first half, and should
have taken the lead in the first few minutes when a cross from the right
picked out an unmarked player at the back post but hit his volley wide of
the post, soon after an effort outside the box from Tavis' Chris Bray
struck the far left hand post. Slightly against the run of play Bude took
the lead when a deep free kick from Wayne Cornish was floated deeply in to
the box, a number of players went up for it but defender Paul Mellor got
his head to it and flicked it back in to his own net. Budes' work
rate increased in the second half with the front pairing of Jason Veale
and Tommy Statton cutting out defenders clearances on a number of
occasions and the Bude defence was back looking rock solid. As Tavistock
starting getting frustrated with the Bude work rate they let in a second,
a long through ball was well read by Veale who ran on and hit his shot
down the middle of the goal. Bude nearly increased their lead soon after
when a superb low strike from Robbie Pearce 30 yards out struck the near
post. Bude made 3 substitutions and it took time to adapt which Tav looked
to take advantage of and a close range effort from a striker looked goal
bound but keeper Gary Dinshaw superbly got down low to tip around his left
hand post.
Tavi were handed a lifeline after 80 minutes when Budes' Simon Chadwick
was adjudged to have handled in the box and Bray scored from the resulting
penalty. Bude held out well against Tavis' final push and it wasn't
going to be Tavis' day when a player was booked for a foul, he clapped the
decision in front of the ref and was then given his marching orders with a
red card.
