League Match

Bude 2    Saltash 0

Bude produced probably their best performance of this early season against a strong Saltash outfit, in possibly the hottest game ever played at Broadclose. It was Saltash who could have taken the lead after 10 minutes when a low cut back inside the Bude box was smashed well over the bar from 10 yards out. Bude did take the lead after 20 minutes, a low Stevie Box free kick on the right  fell in the box to Adam Hodgson whose right foot shot went through a defenders legs bobbled in front of the keeper who couldn't hold on to it and Steve Smeeth was alert to stroke it in. Bude were soon two nil as Bude won the ball in midfield played it through the defence to Steve Smeeth who put it through the keepers legs for his second. Almost instantly Smeeth could have got his hat trick when he was put in again but a weak effort was saved by the keeper. Saltash nearly pulled one back when a corner was well met by a strikers head but was cleared off the line by Josh Allen. Although two nil can always be a tricky lead Bude looked very comfortable throughout the second half and keeper Gary Dinshaw had very little to do. Bude could have put the game to bed after 50 minutes, a delightful through ball on the left from Tommy Statton again found the run of Smeeth but his effort was again hit straight at the keeper to save. After a slow start to the season Budes squad now seems to be showing signs that they can work they way up towards the top of this division.
