League Match
Bude 3 Nanpean 3
This opening league
game started slowly with Budes’ new look side taking time to settle down.
Nanpean took the lead midway through the half when a nothing cross saw
defender Dan Starkey head back past his own keeper Gary Dinshaw. Bude
equalised in the 35th minute when a superb flowing move saw
Steve Smeeth put through on goal and he passed the ball in the far right
corner beating the keeper. Soon after Nanpean re-took the lead when
Bradley Walsh turned his marker after receiving from a corner and smashed
inside the near post.
Changes were made to Budes line-up during half time and it slowly had the
desired effect. After 65 mins a Simon Chadwick cross picked out Jamie
Kirkland who equalised with a looping header, and they then took the lead
when Steve Box was fouled by the visiting keeper and striker Tommy Statton
put the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot. Bude had their best
spell of the match producing a number of chances, Smeeth hit the post with
a speculative 30 yard curling shot, Kirkland saw a fierce strike well
saved and Norman Foster headed just wide from close range. Bude slipped
up again from a set piece when lack of marking at a corner saw Nanpeans’
Rory Barnicle volley in from close range and earn themselves a point.
